Somebody, Hide the Book!

This is the book to which I am referring... I got it out this morning, thinking that it would be good to run through for ideas for Daisy's Cottage.

Bad idea.  An hour or two later, I still had not put it down and I have way too many ideas floating around in my empty head...  I am filling the empty spots very fast.

For those of you that asked me about illustration board, this is the kind I use.  Crescent illustration board was what I used in college for history of fashion classes and fashion illustration. Good Stuff. I get it at Joanne's.  They also carry it at a lot of art stores.

I found this little piece hiding in my wallpaper stash this morning.  It was enough to do the kitchen twice.  Saved by the stash, once again.

As you can see, I have brushed the back with dirty water to keep it from warping and this time I know it will do the job.

Look how much more vibrant the color is on this than on the other stuff.  It's the same color, out of the same bottle. It will be toned down when I get to the grout.

Not a warp in site! And I can still see the lines of the tile through the paint.   I just noticed that I need to touch up the edge near the bottom of the photo.  That's the edge that shows.

As for the old stuff, Lene suggested that I put that somewhere else...She was right.  I cut a piece from it to fit the porch roof.  I was planning for some kind of patio up there and this works.

It looks old and dull as if it has been outdoors for ages.  Just what I needed.  Thanks Lene.  My apologies for not putting the little mark over the last E. Not sure how to do it.

I am going to have to put an edge of some kind on the tile up there. After I cut the piece, it is back to raw weird cardboard.

Anyway, in a couple of hours, I will be off to the gem show.  I will show you my ill gotten gains tomorrow.

See you then.

Casey,

I want to live in the cottage in the cover, so I can only imagine how addictive the pages inside the book would be! I have to find that book now!

The flooring looks great. Looking forward to the finished room.

Hi Casey. Thank you for explaning the difference between matboard and illustration board. None of the online comments explained that illustration board is meant to be drawn and painted on and matboard is not.

P.S. I have always considered illustration board was for drawing not painting, which is what I was told in my painting classes (years ago). Now I see from the art store ads, it is also recommended for paints and probably has been used that way for many years. Perhaps the board itself has changed from my early painting and drawing days.I'll have to try it as a painting surface for my artwork.

Hi Casey! First let me wish you a "Happy Birthday" even if it was a couple of days ago. Forever 6 sounds good to me, too! :D
I am glad to learn that there is a difference in the quality of Illustration Board, I never knew there was.
Is there a certain weight that one should look for when purchasing like watercolor paper or is it one kind fits all?

Diane, I got the book on Amazon a few years ago. I imagine they still have it. Go for it. It is full of great ideas.

Phyllisa, the illustration board is used mostly for pen and ink drawings and watercolor washes like you used to see in advertising art.

When I was looking for the illustration board, I found a scrap of mat board that was a moss green velvet finish. Now that's one I wouldn't want to try drawing on.

Michael's used to sell scraps. I think that I bought that piece for a quarter, thinking that I might try using it for a rug. Never did, but that gives you som idea of the range of finishes that mat board comes in.

Elizabeth, as I said before, simply turn the board over and look for the crescent brand on the back. I should have known better than to buy a piece that had only some mysterious numbers on the back!LOL

Kathie, thanks for the number. I couldn't remember it.

Hello Casey,
I am glad the new floor came out looking nice and bright and that you found a use for the other one. It does look very good there. I hope you had fun at the gem show.
Big hug,
Giac

I am so happy that you could use my suggestion! Don't worry about the é, I rarely use it anymore online - it confuses people too much hehehehe. I have that same book in my Amazon "Saved for Later" cart..... with my next purchase it's definitely going to make the long haul to Dubai!

Whimsical homes of the 20s. Sounds like a fascinating book to me. Love that era. Even the cover is interesting. I wonder if our library has it.

Highly recommend the book to anyone interested in storybook style or anyone that just wants to add a little something extra in the way of design to their miniatures.
