Wednesday With Witches....

I took my rya rug box for something to work on today... I also took a magnifying glass... It turned out that the magnifier was NOT a good one to work on the rugs with.

It just didn't work right.  That's all I can say.

Besides, I didn't really want to work anyway.  I just wanted to watch what everyone else was doing.
When I got home, I found that Tessie and Zar had been in the work room all afternoon.

Tessie was finding all kinds of mini beads, so that she could request me to make jewelry for her...

Zar was just sitting there ignoring her.  He knows that, unless I am in the mood, she is NOT going to get new jewelry.

I am not in the mood.

When they gave up in the bead cabinet, they relaxed in Tessie's new closet. I am still leaning towards making the kidney shaped dresser for that room.  I don't like the lounge chair. It only accommodates one person and there is no mirror to see what the clothes look like after she puts them on.

The other reason that I want to do the dressing table is... I found mirrors at Walmart!

They were in the hardware area with some other things to put on our big people walls as decorations.

There are 14 mirrors in three different sizes in the package and they were under four dollars!

I think that I am going to finish Tessie's dressing room before doing anything else!

The largest mirrors in the package would be perfect for the dressing table.  Tomorrow, I am going to start the instructions for the dressing table.  Stay tuned!

See you tomorrow!!!

No Working on Labor Day!

Well... Maybe just a little...

I decided to make the window/mirror frame match the shower curtain.

Here's how.

I cut a piece of fabric about 1/4" larger, all around that the frame itself.

Then I painted the frame green to match the walls.

After that I glued the fabric to the front of the frame.
When it was dry, I clipped the fabric at 1/4" intervals all around.  I cut into the corners on the inside of the frames and cut the corners out of the outside corners, so that they wouldn't overlap.

With Tessie's approval, I will now put it under some books until it dries thoroughly.

I had to try it out on the wall.  It fits!  Now all I have to do is wait a while and then put in the glass and the mirror.

After that it will be just a matter of doing the leading for the glass and mirror.

Not today.  It's Labor Day.  I get the rest of the day off.  Just like everybody else!

See you tomorrow.

Slowly, But Surely...

The mirror happens...

I cut the frame out in two pieces.  I didn't happen to have any wider board.  There's always glue.
I went and found some Plexiglas mirror.  You didn't think that I was going to attempt cutting a real mirror in that shape, did you?

Nope! Not going to happen!  As long as Tessie approves of the reflection, I am going to be happy with it.
The second step was gluing it together.  It will be a while before I can do much more.  I need to do some trimming and sanding, next.

That will have to wait a while.
Evidently, Tessie approves.  She is smiling at herself in the mirror.

She may not be smiling for long.  She hates waiting for glue to dry, just as much as I do... But it must be done...

So.  I am going to go find something else to do for the rest of the afternoon.

There's always bead stringing...  Basket weaving? Or maybe I will just go play on the iPad for a while...

See you tomorrow.

Three Thirty in the Morning...

That's where all of the best ideas are found.

I got the idea for the leading for the mirror and window yesterday at that time.  I also thought of doing it another way... see below.

Then I went back to sleep.

This morning I thought of doing the frame in copper tooling and the leading in copper also...

Not necessarily the best idea in the world.  Just more work.  I would have to cover the wood with the copper to give it the thickness that it needs.  But by tooling, and adding wire, I could do some spirals and lines to match the shower curtain...

Just more work, indeed!
I want to put some shelves in the  living room around the fireplace... Another 3:30 AM idea...

I have to stop waking up at three thirty.  Note to Kota!

I came up with tree bookshelves.  I have seen some built of regular wood planks in this shape, but I would rather it look like a real tree.

I don't know if it will work, but I am going to try.

It's one of those ideas that seemed like a good one at the time... We shall see.

I am off to bake banana bread now... Then back to work.

See you tomorrow.
