I peaked into the top of the Rusty Needle this morning. Tessie is explaining everything to Letty.
She is introducing her to new places and new friends now that she is a modern woman...
I over heard Tessie telling Letty that she could have the quilt shop. "Since you like to do needlework I will let you have this one. I hate needles and pins, I will let you have it if you make me a new quilt...
Next she introduced Letty to Eskiaga and Cordelia. She told her that Eskiaga always has a big plate of tacos and other Southwestern food on the table if she gets hungry.
I do believe that is the reason that Cordelia hangs out there a lot. She loves tacos.
Then she got just a little to free with my stuff. She offered Letty the use of MY craft cottage if Letty would paint her a couple of pictures to hang in her next house.
I will let Letty use the cottage, but I may just shrink and use that one myself, once in a while...It's much nicer and well organized than my big one!
The last place that she took her for today was to Albert's house.
Daisy, Albert and the basket maker were enjoying the afternoon...
Tessie barged in on their conversation to introduce Letty to them.
I think that the two men liked the new addition to the community. Letty was impressed when Tessie told her who Albert was and that he was a great scientist.
About that time I told them that was enough for one day. Letty can meet more of the people around here tomorrow. I have a feeling that Tessie is trying to keep her away from Zar.
I am not going to get in the middle of this. Usually, if it is a new man, Zar gets introduced first. Not this time.
I am going to just stand back and watch for a few days to see what happens...
Back to work. See you tomorrow.
Don't forget to poke the photos to enlarge!

Party On Dudes!
I went back to the gem show this morning with my friend Joan.
I am NOT going back again this year. I think that I have enough stuff to last me for a while.
Tomorrow, I have to get back to work and finish this one. I just need to antique the outside.
Meanwhile, any excuse for the gang to have a party... My birthday has lasted three days so far...
Tomorrow I am putting a stop to it! Enough celebrating another year.
Back to work.
See you then.

More Cleaning...
Some of these, I am just cleaning up. I am not decorating for Christmas.
This quarter scale does not really qualify for Christmas decorations. After all, it is in the desert and no pine trees around.
I guess that I could put a Christmas tree in this one, but again, it is not really right for Christmas dressing.
So. Cleaning is what it gets.
The houses that I have that are candidates for exterior dressing get some snow and a few pine trees... nothing fancy.
I need to fix the snow on this one... Not very well done yet.
This one always gets snow. This is the first time I have bothered to put greenery out. I may have to go and find a few of my battery operated Christmas mini lights.
I am going to have to look for those tomorrow. Wish me luck in finding them... The last time I looked, they were in the electrical drawer... But I may have taken them out to get ready for Christmas... If I did, I have no idea where I put them.
I did finish the shawl today.
I still have a couple of pieces of furniture to make for Amare's room box. One week and two days until Christmas... Oops. I guess I should get to work!
See you tomorrow.

Spit and Polish....
I have been moving things around and cleaning all day long... Very long...
Tomorrow, the Wednesday Witches are coming here and I have to be on my best behavior. Remember? We have two perspective witches joining us.
I have to behave... No. I am not going to get into any trouble. And Tessie has promised to behave herself too... I will believe that when I see it.
I really did spit and polish lots of stuff today.
I also moved a lot of things around. No. The Tudor Trailer didn't go anywhere. It just got polished somewhat...
No. I didn't spit on anything. I just used Old English Lemon Oil on everything.
The nice thing about taking photos is, I can see some of the things I missed. Back to the oil and the brush!
I did move some books out of the bedroom and put one of the breakaway boxes on the bookshelf instead.
I am trying to do that in all of the bookcases. It looks better than a gazillion books stuffed into the shelves.
I know that you are asking yourself, "Did she clean in the workroom?"
YES! I have it looking almost decent. Almost... You will notice that I didn't include a photo of the beading shelves. They are straightened, but not necessarily orderly.
I may have time to do some more tomorrow morning... I have until 1:00PM to get the food ready and finish clearing the clutter.
Wish me luck! I am going to need it.
Back to the grindstone. See you tomorrow.

A Bad Case of Unfinished-itis....
I have to find a cure!...
I went through the house this morning, looking at all of the things that I have done...And haven't done...
I found that I have a bad case of unfinished-itis. Any of you that follow me regularly, know this.
Usually, I don't worry about it. When December hits, I start.
We are in charge of having the family, Christmas day. And I start wanting everything to look nice. Especially the things that sit at eye level.
The craft cottage is the easiest of the bunch. It just needs a bit of straightening and the finishing of the rug... No problem-o.
Then there is Tessie's Townhouse. It looks like a tornado hit it a while back... That was when I moved it from one side of the room to the other. I had it facing the wall for a while... Now it is facing out and will be seen by one and all...
Tessie is not happy. No wonder she is trying to take over Daisy's cottage...
This will take a bit more time. I have never finished the lighting in this one... Oops!
Problem number three, for those that are keeping track... The half inch Fairfield sits on top of a bookcase, in the workroom. Not so much of a problem... But... I started it in the 80s and the wallpaper inside is horrible now.
It can slide down the list a ways, because I can always blanket it.
I had a friend that used to say... People are coming. Get out the blankets! Then she would simply cover the unfinished items...
Then there is the Clockwork Cottage. Also on a top shelf... To blanket or not to blanket... That is the question... It is probably the most unfinished of all of them.
The $9.00 Mystery House is probably in the best shape, but I keep borrowing things from there to put in other rooms...
No wonder the owner never comes home... She has been over at Eskiaga's Southwestern Room for a number of years now...
I think that I am going to have to go around and collect the things that other people borrowed from her house. Then it will be in pretty good shape.
These two are not last or least, but they do need to be finished. The one on the left is April's Russian Cottage.
I am not to worried about that one because April doesn't have any room for it at her house yet... One of these days...
Again, these two cottages sit on top of bookshelves. Not at eye level. The weaver's cottage doesn't need a lot of work. Inside framing and a few pieces of furniture. This will probably be the first one of the high houses that gets finished.
Anyway, I am going to stop working on other things for a while... I will keep working on Daisy's Cottage. That one is down low.
I need to get the rest of these to look good for the holidays. Somebody stand beside me and poke me with a pointy stick when I stop working. I have a lot to finish this month... Wish me luck! I'm going to need it.
See you tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch......
OK. After a lot of drilling with not a lot of results, I am thinking that I should make the fireplace removable and put the transformer behind it. I have a hole big enough for a cord to go through in the back and there is no reason to have to take the transformer out, once it is in. So.... I think that I will build the bottom of the fireplace as a unit and the chimney as a stationary piece.
I have to think on how I want to do it for a bit...
So, if you are looking for me. I will be in the workroom, otherwise known as the non-conversational pit. Nobody wants to come in there and talk to me whilst I clean.
It has to be done. While I am thinking on how to do the fireplace, I can get a lot of it finished.
Tessie and Zar casually mentioned that they had an appointment with a fireplace expert and left.
As I was walking from the bedroom to the workroom....I saw this.
Fireplace expert, my left foot! Eskiaga is adept at building fires, but not fireplaces.
I built that one without any help from any of them.
I think that was just an excuse to sit around the fireplace and eat tacos and enchiladas. Not to mention getting out of helping clean the workroom.
I guess that I am all alone, unless one of you want to volunteer? No? OK. Once again, I am left to my own devices....
See you tomorrow.

Close Ups in the Southwest...
Thanks to all of you that have voted so far. Please keep voting.
Now onto more important matters. I was cleaning Eskiaga's Southwestern room box this morning and decided to go into a bit more detail about it.
Tessie has been following me around and pestering me all morning, so I let her into a couple of the photos. It should have been Eskiaga, but he is preoccupied with Cordelia in the living room. Essentially, he told me to buzz off and go play with Tessie.
This first photo is of the wrought iron chandelier in the living room. It is simply a lot of jewelry findings toggled together with E-6000 and painted black.
To light it, I ran a single wire down into the main barrel of the lamp and attached the six wires from the lights to it in the center. It looks somewhat like a flower on the inside. The stem is the lead wire and the petals are the wires from the bulbs. Their wires are split and half are attached to each side of the lead wire.
I got it all together and made sure that it worked before I painted the whole thing black and strung it up.
The painting above the fireplace is one that I painted on silk with acrylics. The mountain that is in the background is a stylized version of my favorite mountain, north of Tucson. Someone, in their infinite wisdom, named it Picacho Peak....If you translate the first word, the name is Peak Peak....?
Wiring can be fun, sometimes. Since this and the fireplace were the only lights in the whole thing, it was pretty simple to do.All of the woodwork in the place is done with an Exacto knife. If you look closely, the door itself is all one slab. I copied the design from a book on Mexican interiors. Then I did a straight up and down cut on the line and an angular cut slanting towards the inside of each panel.
The door molding and all of the baseboards and ceiling beams are simply commercial molding with little Xs carved in the center section. I just drew the lines and then cut the Xs slanting towards the center line. There is a lot that you can do to make commercial mini moldings look very different just with a few cuts.
I caught Tessie sneaking around in the bedroom very early this morning. I had to reprimand her for trying on the heshi bead necklaces without permission.
The cross stitch design on the bed is from a book of Transylvanian cross stitch patterns. The pattern on the pillow is repeated all around the bed. I thought it looked very similar to a thunder bird pattern. It fits in quite well with the southwest motifs. And no, there are no vampires involved in the making of this room box.
Someone asked, around the time that we went to the gem show, if I had made any tables out of rock slabs. The answer is yes. This particular one was a bit difficult. The wood is native Arizona Iron Wood....It is literally like iron. It's almost impossible to cut.

I have another one in the Burglar Room box. I will have to take a photo of that one also. It is much larger.
Behind it, you can see another version of the baseboard. This was on molding that had a bead down the center, so the crosses don't actually meet in the center.
A little while ago, I found Tessie in the other side of the loft.
Now she wants the hand painted cabinet. I copied this piece from a 1930s or 40s Artes De Mexico furniture catalog. It has different primitive scenes painted on each panel.
The chair is from the same catalog. The catalog very nicely gave measurements for all of it's furniture.
The last thing that I will mention is the wrought iron railing along the balcony edge. That was a piece of an ugly green plastic basket. I cut it to size, glued cocktail picks with fancy ends on the front and painted the whole thing black.
OK. I have to go pull Tessie out of there before she zaps out everything she can get her hands on. You would think that she was poor as a church mouse. Poor, poor Tessie.....
See you tomorrow.
