Getting the Lead Out!

I got the lead that I still had out....Not a lot.

I am going to have to get Walter to make a run to the golf store for more.

I use the golfer's lead tape...It comes on a roll in about 1/2" wide self stick.  Great stuff.

I don't remember where I first learned about it, but it was about 20 years ago.

It is pretty popular now.
The process is simple.  I took the piece that I cut out for the window and drew around it on a piece of graph paper the same size. Then I sketched the design.   After that, I put it under a piece of transparency printer plastic and traced it. You can also simply tape the pattern to the underside of the plastic and just put the lead on where the lines of the pattern are.  Either way, you just cut the lead into thin strips and lay them along the lines.  You take the backing off as you go and cut it at the joins with an Exacto knife.

After that is done, normally you would simply flip the plastic over and do the other side.

If you want old glass, simply paint one side with clear nail polish.  If you want colored glass, You color the opposite side with Sharpie, colored pens.  Don't try to do both on the same side.  Icky-ness will result.

I haven't done that yet.  I am still trying to decide how I want to play this.
I think that Tessie and I are both leaning towards just leaving the windows open....

I was toying with the idea of putting a photo behind the opening and then covering the back of it with stone...

If I did that, I would simply cover the outside with a piece of illustration board and lay the stone over that.

Anyway, another day of deliberation is in store for us.

Again, decisions and more decisions.  That's the bad part of having the attention span of a six year old.

See you tomorrow.

Lovely! I see a trip to the golf store for lead tape in my future...might even tell them what it's for just to see the reaction:) Hugs, Sarah

Hi Casey. The box looks fantastic!
Love the floor and windows!
I have a question about cats. I have just acquired one and I am wondering if there is a danger that she will try ingesting any of the tiny minis in my dollhouses. There is no "real" food in the dollhouses, but cats, as curious as they are, like to investigate.Three of my dollhouses are open in the back and down low to the floor. Two cannot be moved. Should I mount plexiglass to the back? Even with all the miniaturists who own cats, I have never seen this question addressed.

Phyllisa, my cats never ate anything that I know of.... However, I had a tag team with Mookie and Widget. Mookie could open any of the lever handles in the house that would swing away from him.... Then Widget would take over and carry things off in his mouth! I used to find stray minis al over the house. They do tend to want to get into the rooms. There are photos here and there all over the blog of especially Mookie sitting in the middle of rooms that I was working on at the time. Probably it would be a good idea to cover them. It all depends on the cat. Good luck!

Great idea how much does this golf tape cost?

Chris, I know that we can get it here in Tucson in 1/2 and 1" widths and the rolls are both under ten dollars. I am not sure how long the rolls are. I got my latest strip from a friend of Walter's for free. He just cut me off a yard or so.
