This Time It Is Watching Spackle Dry

Oh!  The excitement!

I did all of the basic spackling this morning.

I started with the wall behind the stairs.

I switched to a bristle brush, from the same package as the brush that I was using yesterday.

Someone asked me at the Wednesday Witches meeting last week where I buy my good brushes...What good brushes?  I have a couple of liner brushes that are good ones, but I got them a long time ago and I take good care of those.

The ones that I use for minis most of the time are cheapos.  Not bad ones like the kids are sold for watercolors.  These come in a pack of assorted brushes and none of them are bad.  Just not expensive.  The one that I am using here is a boar bristle brush, made in China.  Nice and stiff.

Anyway, I had to get a lot of area covered and textured fast, before it dried.

So I slapped on the spackle, starting with the loose pieces and then did the inside of the box...First, standing on my head, I did the ceiling.  Then the back wall.  Then the two side walls.

The theory is, if you do them in that order, you will get less paint/gesso/spackling paste on yourself , and more on the walls.  Good theory.  It actually works if you are a careful worker.

I always manage to get some where it shouldn't be anyway.

At least it sticks to the gesso and not so well to the wood.  That part can be wiped off with a damp paper towel.
I have, for all intents and purposes, all of the stucco done.  That is except for corners and joints between the components.  Those will be done later.
As for Tessie, she refused to help.  She is working on what she calls the sugar basket.  I started that last night.  I tried to explain to her that the sugar sack was only to weight the basket down whilst I worked on it.  She wasn't having any of that.  If it has sugar in it while you are making it, it should be a sugar basket.... Remember the cat basket...Widget sat in it the whole time I was making it.  Maybe she has a point...

She also has a theory about me getting dirty.  She told me, as she worked, "Aprons are meant to keep you clean.  You should wear one.  If it doesn't get dirty, you won't either."  Great theory.

True. She doesn't get her apron, or herself dirty....But....As soon as the paint or glue comes out, she runs the other way, screaming.  "I can't get my apron dirty!  Get away from me with that paintbrush!"

Both of us need to get back to work now.  First I have to find an apron. I know I have one.  I got it free with my first membership at the Mini Time Museum...I seldom wear it though.  I don't want to get it dirty....

See you tomorrow.

You know, this apron theory.... Tessie might be on to something. I have one and wear it a lot when I paint or work with clay but it's a pretty one so I don't want to get it dirty! Result? I work way neater and with more care...

Gostei de ler sua história e realmente a boneca está certa, eu também não gosto quando eu sujo meu avental. Obrigada pela dica dos pinceis.
Abraço, Fernanda.

I love boar bristle brushes! They just have enough strength to apply a heavy pounding (and when they wear down, they make even MORE interesting patterns).

I have a whole large 16 inch round planter full of them. I stocked up whenever I visited my home country, because they aren't a very popular product here in the Middle East (being pork and thus forbidden).
