The Boxer Rebellion!

That is, I started making boxes for the attic and the troops rebelled.  In the words of Tessie, "Boxing is boring!"

So it's a do it myself project.

I have an old box maker from Aleen's(the glue maker).  They used to have their own craft show on TV.  I got suckered into buying one of these.  I seldom use it.  Not because I don't like it, but because it was forgotten in the back of a drawer.  That's one benefit of cleaning out.  I found it.

Basically, it is a board with grooves about half inch apart that you lay your paper or cardboard on to score the fold lines.  It is great for making multiples of them.

I don't remember what happened to the scoring tool, but a crochet hook of the right size works just fine.

One of the biggest advantages is, you don't have to measure or draw lines.  You just score your little head off.  Cut them out, fold and glue.

I had all of these boxes made in less than an hour.
I do have a guilty secret though.  See the line of boxes in this photo....The first three sit flat on the floor.  The fourth on is kind of lopsided.  That's because I folded it like I normally wouldn't.  I don't like what a folded bottom does to tiny boxes.

So....I cut them off at the bottom edge and put in a false bottom.

The two at the right show you what the inside and outside look like with the false bottom.

Unless you pick them up to inspect closely, you would never know.

I was making these out of the 5" by 7 1/2" dividers from Widget's Fancy Feast, twelve pack, cat food...I get to choose what food he eats, so I pick the one that has usable dividers inside.  Don't tell him.  He doesn't know that there are other brands.

I used two of the dividers for all of these boxes. Some are 1"by 1" and some are 1"by 1 1/2".  Not bad.  I got seven out of the two pieces, bottoms and all.

Of course, as soon as I started filling the boxes and putting them in the loft, Tessie and Spike showed up.  Spike, looking for a quiet place to sleep and Tessie rummaging through the boxes to see if there was anything good to play with.  Needless to say, Spike got little or no sleep.  Tessie simply emptied all the boxes and left the mess for me to deal with.

I quit!  I'm going to a movie with Walter instead.

See you tomorrow.

I wish I had such a box maker. You always come up with the most unusual things, Casey. I guess it's because you've been in the business for such a long time. Sorry that Spike did not get his afternoon nap! Poor Spike!

Perfect boxes. I like the scene with Tessie who is snooping in the boxes.
Bye, Faby

I'd love to have a box maker. I remember that craft show and loved it, but my cable company decided to charge extra for some of the more popular programs that used to appear on that particular channel. You could have solved your wobbly box problem by scoring and cutting one bottom flap the full size of the bottom of the box. It's easier to glue and you can eliminate the opposite flap to reduce bulk.
