Rock On.....

Adding on....It is hard to see that yesterday's rocks are wet, but they are.

As you can see, this clay dries almost white.  That makes it easier to paint.

I added the clay, one torn piece at a time, with white glue beneath it.  I blended each piece in with my fingers as I went.  I now have stiff white fingers.  It's just a good thing that this stuff washes off with water.

Again, if you are doing this technique for the first time, don't do as I do....Do as I say.  Three or four square inches at a time, please.

Here you can see that I put it right up to the roof line.  and continued up to the chimney.

I am going to have to go back and cut some of it out, where the roof is going to go.  That's much easier than trying to cut the roof to fit the rocks.

I added an extra layer or two where I wanted the rocks on the chimney to stand out.  Then when I sculpted those, I was careful not to squish them down.
Here's the side as it looks at present...I may add a bit more here and there, but so far I am satisfied with it.

I do think that it needs more on the left hand side as you are looking at it.  Maybe a bit more around the windows.

Next I start on the front of the house.  That is going to be a lot of work.  The other end is essentially done.

Sorry that this is so short, but I have to go take the stone off the chimney where the roof line will interfere.

I do hope that you will try this.  If you do, I would love to see photos.

Back to work.

See you tomorrow.

Casey, I so often regret having put siding on my house when I see this beautiful stone work. Sometimes, I think perhaps I should remove the siding from the extra wing I added and put stone on it.

Hi Casey. I'm glad to see you moving right along on the stonework. What brand air-drying clay do you use? Since I have not purchased any yet, I thought I would get your preference.

Also, I checked out the links for the paper basket making and did not find any that showed how to make them to my satisfaction. I would like to give it a try. Do you know of another link or perhaps you could do a tutorial? Your tutorials are so clear and easy to follow.

Phyllisa, this is a new air drying clay put out by Sculpey. I have never used it before. I usually use DAS. It was. Nowhere to be found. So far, I like this very much. If you can find a 40% off coupon for Michaels, it is really reasonable for very large package. The only hurdle now is how it takes the paint.
