I dug into the drawer that has the unfinished Michael's cabinets and found that I only had four left and three of them were the same.
Everybody uses these and makes them fancy in different ways.
I just grabbed a few "Tiny Turnings", some laser cut corner brackets and a few beads. I got lucky. One of the strips of tiny turnings when cut in a certain place, fit perfectly in the scalloped area of the doors. I just cut them off with an exacto knife and glued them in with fast grab.
Then I improvised feet and a top crown with six of the corner brackets. I lined the front feet up with the lines of the cabinet above, not the outer decorative bottom. Then I turned two of them back to back for the top.
Pretty simple build. I put a couple of fan pieces at the bottom and stained the whole thing with Minwax Early American stain.
I will go back and do some finishing work. I still need to put on a coat or two of varnish.
It's too bad that the people that put these together aren't a little more careful with the glue. I am going to have to do some work on the bottom corners of where the drawer is. Maybe I can get Spike to sit in front of one of the spots and put a potted plant on the other side.... I now have furniture for another vignette.
It was a fast project that made Tessie happy. Now I am free to go bake Christmas cookies and fudge.....I wonder if I could put off the laundry for another day? Who needs clean clothes anyway?
See you tomorrow.

I hope your Micheal's still carries the cabnets. I keep checking ours and another one 30 miles away and neither one has them anymore. Hardly any wood section at all. I LOVE your cabnet with the turnings and trim! You always have such great ideas.
Yet another inspirational makeover. I love these!
Oh, the cabinet looks so lovely! Glad to hear Tessie approves. :)
Casey,
I have seen other Michaels hutch make-overs but none are as impressive as yours! Nobody would ever guess how that hutch started out. You are amazing!
This has a lot of style. Bravo Casey,
What a transformation!! 10/10 Casey - even Tessie with all her magic powers couldn't have done better :)
you have had left brilliant
LOVE what you did with that hutch! Amazing transformation. I was at Michael's (again) this morning and they don't have these anymore. :(
I'm going to look in Florida and stock up if I find any. Gotta spend my gift card, you know. I'm sure Santa will bring me a gift card. I've been very good this year! LOL
I love the way you redid this piece of furniture!
A wonderful transformation! I never cease to be fascinated with what can be done with these little cabinets. I especially like that you covered the drawer with pieces of fan. I feel like playing with my stash of cabinets after seeing what you've done. Unfortunately, Christmas baking is calling and I must answer the call.
Casey I love this!!!! I'm thinking with a different finish it would look nice in my shabby house(whenever that happens). =) I've never seen those turnings. And its true about Michaels wood section. Totally going downhill. =( Although I have seen the hutches at the ones I have visited. Maybe I should stock up, just in case. Now if I can just find some $$$ for that.......
I guess that I should have said that the "Tiny Turnings" are available at a lot of miniature stores and I am sure that someone on line will have them. As for the baking, Lucille, I managed to do two batches of spritz cookies on top of the furniture refurbishing! Great day. Now I can eat cookies and knit for the rest of the evening.
I love what you did with the hutch. My Michael's doesn't carry these and I am so disappointed! If I ever find them anywhere else, I will buy as many as they have! I bet Tess is happy with it! Good job!
Lucky you, Casey! It's horrible what just happened to me. My oven fell apart as I was cleaning it. There's a piece of wire hanging from the top and I can't put the sides back in. No baking tonight, I'm afraid. Maybe they'll give me a new stove. This one existed before Adam and Eve. There's no light in it and I have to hold a flashlight in one hand as I scrub with the other.
I bought one of those too! Love your makeover!
What a wonderful way of enhancing that hutch!!!it looks great!!!
Now that is some Michael's Hutch Transformation! Just lovely.
That most impressive transformation! Beautiful. Happy
Christmas
