Getting Down To It.....

This morning the real world took over for a while. I cleaned the kitchen. It's a dirty job, but somebody has to do it... I started by the refrigerator and worked my way around to the stove, sink and this....
I consider cleaning paintbrushes a part of the kitchen. That's where they live, or else they never get cleaned after using. I thought that I would be throwing out a lot. No such luck....Six measly paint brushes were no longer usable.

Why am I showing you clean paintbrushes? Because they live in a couple of hand thrown pots that April(the small one) and Seth(the big one) made for me. The one that April made was made especially for my paintbrushes. See the holes in the sides? That is how I can keep different kinds of brushes separated and in one place.

This stuff sits to the left of the sink. It gives me something to enjoy while puttering about in the kitchen.

I am going to have to work harder to mess up brushes, so that I can pare down the quantities.

After I finished the kitchen, I went back to the Russian Cottage. I need a name for this one. Russian Cottage is kind of boring.

Here's the roof after it dried for 24 hours. I need to do a little touch up here and there. Then I have to decide what kind of treatment comes next.

I went looking on the net this morning for websites that would help.....Did I find a site for you??? If you are in need of photos of different architectural types, this is the one! http://www.skypalace.org/europe/slavic/east_slavic/russia/traditional_houses.shtml This page is crammed full of Russian Traditional houses. It is amazing. The thing is, after looking around on the page for a while, I noticed at the top of the page colored blocks that had 'Africa, Americas, East Asia, Europe, India, Middle East and SEA and Oceania listed. If you punch any of those, they take you to more of the same for each area of the world! As I said, amazing!!!
Last, but not least, I hit a garage sale yesterday and found this little basket for recipe cards(with cards) for a dollar.

You know who wants it....Tessie jumped inside and exclaimed, "Ohhh! You pad the inside and put a chair in the corner and I can go wherever you go!"

I am sitting here, shaking my head in disbelief....The basic question is....Do I want Tessie to go wherever I go? How do I get out of this one?

Right now she is tossing the recipe cards all over the family room. Happily humming.....

Let's see. I was working on the Clockwork Cottage when she came along and demanded that I go to work on the townhouse....I was working on the townhouse when she came along and insisted that I make her a Russian summer cottage.....Now she wants a padded basket(or cell as the case may be).

Hey! At least the size of the projects are getting smaller and smaller as she goes. I just noticed that the basket has a latched closing....Hmmmm....Maybe if I pad it and make it cozy, she won't notice when I slam the lid down and lock her inside. This project has possibilities...I have to go make plans and hunt up a padlock....

See you tomorrow.

Wow. I thought I had a lot of brushes! About eight of mine are soaking in alcohol right now. Seems while working on tiny things I needed lots of brushes! Tiny brushes dry fast too. Hope this works or I may be asking for a hand out. LOL

Kathi, get yourself a small bottle of extender. I think it also goes by the name blending medium. That will keep your brush from drying out so fast.

Casey ... Google the word Izbushka and audition it for the name of the Russian hut. Putting the hut up on chicken legs shouldn't be a problem. :) Then check out Wikipedia's listing for Baba Yaga. There are a couple of nice photos there for inspiration.

Kathie, I already know about Izbushka and Baba Yaga. April brough me back a Baba Yaga doll and a poster of Baba Yaga with the Izbushka. I really don't want to mess with chicken legs under the house. Tessie would probably try to eat them or make a potion. Then where would I be?LOL

i have a question not related to brushes but baskets. i went to your post about coiling baskets and went to the link you suggested to learn how. and now i've come to the end of my thread and i want to start another. how do you end one thread? the way that the 1:1 tutorial is explaining is not working for me. i guess proportionally my needle is bigger than hers and it is too big to go back through the previous coils. any suggestions would be very appreciated:) thanks

Berri, when you get down to about three inches of thread, unthread your needle. Thread it with new thread. Lay the old thread along the side of the wire. Lay the tail of the new thread beside it. Start wrapping with the new thread to cover both tails and just keep up the pattern of stitches. It takes a little practice, but it is easy once you get the hang of it. I now use that method on 1:1 baskets. I think that it gives a smoother join. I hope this helps! If you need more help, E mail me.

¡Tú tienes más pinceles que algunas tiendas! :)
La cocina ya está limpia y espero que dure así muchos dias.
¡Noooooo! No hagas caso a Tessie, cuando salga contigo en la cesta no te dejará comprar cosas necesarias para tí :(
