A Quick Fix For Tessie

Once again, I am in the workroom digging out. Once again, Tessie is working as hard as she can....to get in the way of progress.

I finally solved the problem by making her a cozy little place of her own that she can zap into any small space. It only takes up about 5" square and 7" tall. Not bad for a comfy corner.

Actually, it's not a corner. It is just a floor and a wall.

I came up with this idea for beginners. It gets you started and you can display one piece of furniture or a doll in/on it.

I went to Lowe's Home Center and bought one rustic tile for about 60 cents. Actually, I bought a bunch of them. I have plans......

I measured the tile width. This one was about 4" square. You could use any size or shape and any pattern that is suitable for a mini floor.

Then I cut a scrap of 1/4" foam core board to 4" by 7" It could be taller if you wanted it to be.

I papered the front of the foam core with mini wallpaper, leaving a 1" border all around. I cut a square from each corner of the paper so that it would cover the edges and meet at the corners. I glued the edges. Then I cut a miter on the last part that would fold to the back, so that I had no overlaps.

After that, I cut a piece of the wallpaper the same size as the foam core and glued it to the back to cover the fold overs.

I used Yes glue for all of the paper parts. You could also use spray glue. The less wet, the less warping.

I glued the front, bottom edge of the foam core to one edge of the tile. Then I clamped it together and let it dry.

To finish it off I cut a piece of wood to cap the top. In this case it was a scrap of 1/4" chair rail. I also cut a piece of floor molding to fit the bottom edge. I painted them to match and glued them on.

Instant(almost) room that can be displayed anywhere. There is enough wall space for a small shelf or Grandma Daisy's portrait.

I hope that you will take about 20 minutes to 1/2 hour and try it. It is fun and can be any theme.

Tessie is placidly ticking off the tasks that I have accomplished in her journal.....Funny. I thought that a journal was supposed to list things that the owner had done....Hmmmmm....What's wrong with this picture?

I am going back to work now.....Tessie isn't. She's still ticking....

See you tomorrow.

Great idea! Hopefully Tessie will be out of your hair for a while now, with such a cozy space. Fun fact: I used to have the same strawberry wallpaper in my dollhouse kitchen before the whole house was redone, and it got beadboard!I always liked that paper.

I knew you were bad news. LOL I was telling myself that I don't need another project to do. I had pulled out old mini magazines and have been checking out other blogs and sites you've recommended. the projects I want to do take time.

I breathed a sigh of relief until I read this post. What a cool, inexpensive and small way to start. I'm going to start collecting supplies and the wicker book has made it to the top of my book list. Thanks so much.

Now back to my other projects.
