Animals and More Animals....

I was digging through some of the mini drawers a little bit ago and I found some more pets for Tessie to add to her menagerie.

See the cute little basket full of furry little animals that Tessie is so entranced with? I first saw these at least 25 years ago. I can't tell you who thought them up, but whoever it was, I am happy that they did. They are pussy willows! I have one that has lasted all that time.

The one that I have was made like this. It is simply the top of an acorn with the pussy willow glued inside. If you look at the end of the pussy willow straight on, you will see two dark spots that look like eyes. Some of them are dark enough that you don't have to ink them in. In this case, I used a fine line Sharpie to enhance the eyes. The nose is the bud end that breaks off of the plant.

The one that I bought was advertised as a "kitten". Somehow, I see them more as baby hedgehogs.Whatever they are, they make cute pets.

The other one that I found is a dog that I made about 20 years ago for a class that I was teaching on fancy clothespin dolls. He is a sawed off clothespin with leather scraps for ears. The rest of him is drawn and painted on with a Pigma pen and acrylics. He has a leather collar and a fancy tag similar to the one that Spike wears. Spike is getting jealous.

I don't have any of the dolls left. I do have clothespins.....Hmmmm. Off on another tangent. I am going now to look for clothespins.

See you tomorrow.

Ahhh Casey this brings back so many memories. As a child I used to have pussy willow pets. This was at a time when I didnt even know that miniatures existed. So cute an so simple.

the furry animals definitely look like hedgehogs to me. I've got a little basket of hedgehogs made from wool.

OK...the pussy willows are so cute! So.....here's a dumb question: Where would one find pussy-willows??? And that dog pin is a really cute idea, too!! My Mom used to make reindeers with them!

And if you don't be careful.....I'm gonna teach Tessie how to will those kittens to your house! Bah hahahaha.....

Momma kitty let me pet her for the first time today!! And she looks like she's still nursing, so we will have to wait and see if she brings them to me....OH, and now that the kittens are in the house....the pussom has moved back in, LOL!! Gees!

Hey! If they don't grow pussy willows in your area, try asking at a flower shop. Sometimes they carry them and will sell you a single stem. They don't grow here. Some kind soul sent me some a while back. Good luck!

Oh, we have pussy willows here by the thousands at the shop..I must read this post over again to see how they can be made..currently "re-modelling some plastic animals" and this post comes in handy, Cassie. Was wondering if I can glue "feathery" like material on the animals to make them look more "realistic".

Sans, I am afraid that I am of no help about gluing feathers to plastic animals. I have never tried. I know that some people do it. I have seen them at shows. Good luck with the project.
