Remember how I showed you twining baskets a while back with a tutorial? Here's my latest in that category. It is done with waxed linen for the spines and some of the over dyed floss for the weavers. I just thought that if any of you have tried it, you would be interested in a new "start" for these baskets. As you can see, from the first photo, I used 16 pieces of waxed linen laid out in a square . There are 4 threads pointing, for lack of a better description, North, South, East, and West.
When I started weaving, I wove over groups of 4 threads for 3 rows. Then I went around 2 threads at a time for two rows. After that I used single spines. I shaped the basket by putting one finger inside and pressing outwards as I wove the fattest part. Then I started pulling tighter to get it to go back in. When I got where I wanted the neck the thinnest I went back to weaving over two threads at a time.
When I got up to the top of the neck I did two rows of over two threads and back under one. After I fastened the end off with glue inside, I simply trimmed and fringed the edge of the linen with a blunt tapestry needle.
The whole basket is about 2" tall. It would be a decorative floor basket in mini.
I know. This is not what I was supposed to be working on in Scottsdale. Would you believe I didn't even get one stitch in the rug or one bead on the needle? So you get to see something I did at home.
Sorry about goofing off in Scottsdale. We went to see "Get Smart" and "Wanted" instead.
I promise to get back to work now that I'm home.
I am off to take a nap. I worked hard at having fun for three days and I deserve it! See you tomorrow.
