Today I put in the flooring in the second floor and attic. Here you see the finished laying of the second floor. I started the attic and got a bit frustrated with the center recess. The floor itself is longer than the little ears that stick out on either side of the bottom. Thus I had to cut the flooring longer and bow it to get it in where it was supposed to be.
For a while now I have been using the dots on the back of the floorboards that I explained to you when I was doing the bottom floor. I was growling a bit with the floor that had to be bowed.
After I finished that part, a light bulb flashed over my little brain. I have waisted soooooo much time dotting.
Here's the brainstorm I had when the light turned on. Sorry about mixing the metaphors. As you can see, I ran strips of glue vertically from the direction that I wanted to lay the boards. It was so much faster than dotting every board! I am sure that most of you have been doing it this way for years and years. I just never thought of it before and shame on you for keeping it a secret! I laid that floor in about 15 minutes, as apposed to the hour it took me to lay the one below. This is another one of those times where I am hitting myself on the forehead and going "Duh!!!" Anyway, it worked and I am thrilled.
This is where I am now. I have both floors in, the molding cut for the second floor and measurements written down for the bookcases on that floor.
I have to go back to the real world and do the stupid laundry and clean the stupid real house.
Maybe after I finish the stupid stuff I can go back to the fun stuff. I am very happy with the progress I am making even if I sound grumpy.
Reality is not nearly as fun as the mini world!
See you tomorrow.
