But What Are You Going To Do With It?

Yesterday someone on the Greenleaf forum asked what to say when a non miniaturist asks the above question. Someone answered "I'm going to play with it." Someone else said"If I told you I would have to kill you." I think that is a bit drastic. We do love playing with our minis. Admit it!

I started playing yesterday after making the three tables. I am still playing. More furniture gets involved as time passes. It takes a lot of playing and planning to get everything to look right.

This is the way I see what I need to build in the way of furniture. I like the way the furniture on the first floor is situated now. I do need to build a new counter for the food. I shoved in a chest that is about the right size to see how it would all look. I may also add a thin bookcase this side of the bay. Maybe that will be for paperbacks or something else small.

The second floor is another story, no pun intended. There is a lot of work to be done up there. Somebody fetch me a ladder.

On the left in front of the bay I hung a shaker shelf to see how much of the bay would show if I put shelves there. It's not staying in the book shop. It is just measuring size needed. It's the same as the first floor. They are going to have to be shallow shelves. I will probably make them about 1/2" deep and floor to ceiling. The shaker shelf is a little more than an inch deep. Too much covered.

I am going to have to make another small table for in front of this bay. I think that the opposite wall is going to be bookcases floor to ceiling surrounding the window and built in an L shape so that they go around the front window too. The bookcases that you see are some kits that are 4" wide and about 6" tall. I bought them as kits in a moment of weakness. They will probably go in the general store when I get to that. I have a large antique wooden cracker box, complete with label on the end for that. Someday. Back to the bookshop. I like the freestanding table in front of the bookcase for "specials". I will either pile some books underneath too, or put baskets full of books under there.
Here's a little better view of the left side. I have the chandelier that will hang in the center of the ceiling pinned to the front. I am not electrifying this because it will just go up on a shelf somewhere. The chandelier is non working and cast of brass.
You can see in this photo the hole where the stairs come up. I am going to have to put a railing of some kind on the edge.
I did this kit before I knew that I was going to make it a two story. I knocked out the holes under the bay and now I don't like them. Another job to do. I need to cover them up or fill them in. Maybe I can make a false bottom and pile books in there too. I can see where I am going to be making more books and more books. Not today tho.
We are going to see Ironman today so I don't imagine I will get a lot done....Oh well. See you tomorrow.
