Operation Buttercup Ears

I will be accused of cruel and unusual punishment of a Buttercup today. I spent the morning cutting off Buttercup's ears. I'm not sorry! It had to be done. OK. Let me explain. The Buttercups have way too much gingerbread for what I have in mind. Just about every piece of trim has little "ears" sticking out every which way. I guess you could also call them tabs. The round windows have 4. almost every window and door has its share. I am not a fan of the trim on these houses. Sorry Corona. The Buttercup has so many curved top windows and round windows that I have to use them if I don't want to spend days and days cutting new ones. Soooooooo I operated.

This photo is of the trim that is supposed to go on the bays. It was more than I could stand.......

It now looks like this.

I may still get rid of the bottom part and just use the arches. Wait and see. I am still paring down.

I also started trimming out the window frames. I prefer a more finished looking window so I just line all of the windows with wood strips at the openings. I still have to solve the top of the curve problem. Give me time. I am just picky. No one else will notice the plywood edges, but I will. Just humor me.
Now that I have bored you to near death, I will give you something more fun to look at.
This is a cradle that I made back in 1983. I found the plans in this book for the real one. It was made by Canadian Indians in the 1890s. I think I got pretty close to the real thing considering the only tools I had were an exacto and some sandpaper. It was the first piece that I made from walnut. There were no color photos. I may have taken a couple of liberties in the painting on the side, but I got pretty close. It was fun to do. Too bad it has never found a home of its own. Maybe someday a colonial bedroom?
Anyway, I am going back to cutting off ears. A little plastic surgery can't hurt.
See you tomorrow.

You are answering so many questions I've had about using those kits. I love that cradle! Is it a wood fram wth fabric sides? Are the colors in paint or thread?

Minka, the cradle is all hand carved with an Exacto knife and the sides are just like the original, hand painted.
