Sometimes It Works...

A couple of days ago,  Elizabeth S. commented on Tessie's "new" apron... Tessie saw the comment and immediately started complaining..."This is NOT a new apron.  Speaking of new aprons, you haven't made me any for a long time.  I need new aprons!"

I took her by the scruff of the neck and shoved her in her portable closet.  I counted the other day when the comment was made.

Tessie has 20 or more aprons!  I missed one when I counted and said 19.  I found another one this morning... I am sure that I have missed one here and there...

I put her to work.  I told her that every apron had to be ironed and hung up right, before she would get any more new ones... That should keep me safe for the time being.

I have other things to do.  I have to cut two more layers of the niches this morning...That will take care of the depth.   Then they will have to be spackled.

I have to cut wood  counter tops and niche bottoms.

I also need to redraw the openings for under the counters.  Total of five or six cut outs there...

That should keep me busy for a while.

I did a tiny experiment this morning too.

I needed some screen insets for the doors on the bottom  cupboards.

I ran across this old piece of plastic canvas.  I am not sure if they even make it anymore.

It looks like basket weave.  I was curious to see if it would take stain.  I have used it a few times, painted.  That works.

Now I know that it will also take stain, quite well.  I have no excuse not to get to work on the rest of the counters in the kitchen.

Back to work.  See you tomorrow.

WOW, what a lot of aprons!
I love the kitchen design, Casey.
What do you use to cut the arches etc?

Hello Casey,
I can't wait to see the stove come to life. It will be wonderful. I hope Tessie is cooperating and cleaning her apron closet.
Big hug,
Giac

They definitely still make plastic canvas. Would be interesting to see how it would paint out.

Ironing aprons will buy you a little more time Casey, but not much since Tessie's memory is just like an elephant's, she never forgets anything!
Your idea for the screening sounds like a great solution. Plastic canvas may well become as extinct as the Dodo bird but I still see it on occasion at the local thrift stores. Yours looks to be finer and more like a weave than a grid, is that correct? It is difficult to clearly discern.

Julie, I. Use a good old #11 exacto knife with a few new blades.

Elizabeth, the canvas is indeed woven and very soft and flexible.

Giac, you are the first person ever to use the words cooperating and Tessie in the same sentence!LOL

2minimom, I know that they still make plastic canvas. I just cant find this type of flexible, woven look, canvas anymore. I think that I bought it back in the early nineties, when plastic canvas was very popular.

Hi Casey. I'm glad to see the kitchen moving right along.
Try looking for that canvas in the cross stitch section of Michael's.
I had some years ago and I think that's what I bought it for.

Hey Casey
I didn't realise how many aprons Tessie had! It's like fashion week!!
I'm really enjoying watching your kitchen come together, there's nothing else out there like it. The canvas for the base cupboards was a great find and will really finish it off. I can't wait to see it one you can start filling the shelves.
Have fun
Si

How many aprons does one little woman need? Hang on, we're talking Tessie here :)
I love the shapes you are using for the kitchen, Casey.....but tell me, what is spackle?
All the best

Vivian, spackle is a real sized builders tool. It is a paste, meant to fill cracks and holes in walls before painting in real walls. I imagine it is available everywhere. Maybe by a different name. There is another similar product here that goes by the name "joint compound". Some people use that instead. They both come in a plastic tub here. It looks a lot like thick plaster of Paris. White and chalky. It is carried in hardware stores. I get mine at Walmart, in the paint department. I hope this helps.
