Not Little Miss Muffet...

Tessie found the new MacKinzie Childs catalog this morning... I tried to hide it, but I think that she was watching...

She is in love with their tuffets.  She insisted that Daisy needed those to sit upon in the dining room.

Unfortunately, the dining room is not large enough for the enormous tuffets that were pictured.

She didn't know that I already had some in mind...Only smaller.

I had the pieces cut out and everything lined up to make them.

All it takes for each one is two wooden disks from Woodsies.  They are about a quarter inch thick and solid wood.  The come in a bag of assorted sizes.  I used the largest ones in the bag.

I drilled a hole in the top disk, so that I could tuft it.

Then I cut a double thickness of high loft quilt batting. larger than the circle. I laid the fabric over that with about a half inch more all around.  I trimmed it so that the edge was flush with the bottom edge of the wood, when laid on top and pulled around.

In order to tuft it and not have the thread pull back through, I cut a small square of fabric and laid it on the underside.  I sewed through that each time that I went through to anchor the fabric and batting on top..
Here you can see what it looks like on the back, when it is gathered up and the thread is run back and forth across the back to hold it in place.

The two other circles are banded with a contrasting material.  The strip is cut long enough to overlap a bit at the beginning and end.  I glue the middle of the strip to the edge of the wood.  Then I clip it in Vs all around and glue the points down.  I use Aleen's Fast Grab, so that it will hold immediately.

To finish it off, I cut a circle of card stock and cover it to make a nice finish on the bottom.
I glued the top to the bottom, again with Fast Grab.

I ran a piece of braid between the two layers on the outside.

Then I put three feet on the stool with two jewelry findings for each foot.  I put that on with E-6000.

Here you see Tessie doing a test run...

She sat there for about ten minutes and then turned to me and said, "Hey!  This is about the only thing that you have ever made that I could actually sit on and stretch my legs out with my feet on the floor.  No footstool needed!"

I finally did something right, according to her.  It's going to be a good day after all.

See you tomorrow.

I love your tuffets. I use Woodsies for lots of miniature projects, so I have plenty on hand. Just one question. Is the un-padded, bottom layer made of two woodsies wrapped together in one strip of contrasting fabric, or is it two woodsies each individually wrapped and attached under the padded top. In the final photo, it looks like there is only one "bottom" layer with one strip of trim to hide the join, but in the previous photo I see what looks like two separate woodsies each wrapped in contrasting fabric. I suppose both methods would work, I just wondered how you did yours. Thanks for an attractive but easy project.

Sharon, if you look closely at the first photo, you will see that these arent the thin shaped woodsies, but saw cut circles about a 1/4" thick. They are different from the ones that come in all different shapes. The package is all circles, about 1/4" thick and of several different diameters. Much nicer quality than the other thinner ones. I got them at Joanne's or Michael's.

Hi Casey. I love your tuffets too. Please make me a set in real-life size! LOL! They would look really nice in my Office. One would look nice in the miniature Mayor's office too.
Come to think, I could make a cover similar to those fabrics for my padded coffee table in my Office. Thanks for the idea!
