I will be doing the kitchen floor again...As soon as I get to Joanne's Fabric and Crafts.
I did the floor with illustration board that I purchased at a certain craft store with a four syllable rhyming name... I should have known better.
This stuff is terrible and it shouldn't even call itself illustration board. It is more like silly putty when it gets wet!
I knew that I was in trouble when I put the first wash of color on it and it started to be flexible. Illustration board should be stiff.
When I turned it over and did a wash on the other side to keep it from warping, it was like a piece of stiff leather.
To add insult to injury, it took FIVE Exacto blades to carve the lines of the grout. That's how poor the paper was.
And it even came off in layers in a couple of places.
Can you tell I am not a happy camper/ I paid the same price for this that I do for the good illustration board sold elsewhere.
I did finish it to see how it would look, but I can't say that I am impressed. It just looks dull and lifeless.
I will save it for a pattern...That's about all it is good for.
Then I will put them side by side and you can see the difference.
I am quitting for the day. The kids are coming over later to celebrate my birthday, which happened a couple of days ago and which I am ignoring...I am still six.
That will make me happier. Right now I am very grumpy. Bah humbug!
If at first I don't succeed, I go do something else for a while...
See you tomorrow.

Bah Humbug! So frustrating. I had a night like that working on the roof of a house. I can't really blame the materials though unfortunately! I look forward to seeing the comparison with floor version 2.
Happy Belated Birthday, Casey! I honestly do like that floor! I don't see anything wrong with it. It has that lived in look and I like that!
Lucille and 12-C, you will see a decided difference. If you can't wait, go look at the southwestern room box. This one looks dead.
O grmpf! (Yes, that will be on the list of antique words too one day)
Happy 6th birthday :-D
I hope everyone spoils you to make up for the setback today. I guess it turned out to be a falafel after all (no, wait, that's something else....
;-)
Véronique
And all this time I thought that a falafel was something good to eat! LOL
Happy belated sixth b-day, Casey!
And I'll bah-humbug right along with you (though in my case it's toothache that's making me crankier than usual)
Awww, happy 6 and half'th birthday Casey! I totally sympathize with your dilemma. If I find something suitable in Dubai, it is usually so old and dried out, I may as well not have bothered. Maybe you could use it in a garden setting for a patio and cut off the unusable bits.
Okay, now I know where *not* to buy illustration board. I almost bought some of theirs today. Glad I passed. Happy belated 6th birthday to you!! You should have two pieces of cake :)
Azteclady, I hope the toothache gets better soon!
Lene, it's all usable, just not anything thati like. It's dull and dead looking. Hard to explain.
Casey, Happy Birthday! Is it your 26th or 36th? I hope you have a wonderful day celebrating your belated birthday!
Hello Casey,
How incredibly frustrating! It is done now, you will move ona nd your next floor will be perfect...
More importently, Happy 6th birthday. Six is a lovely age. Enjoy it, it usually goes so fast. Happy birthday and a great big birthday hug,
Giac
