Only A Bird In A Guilded Cage....

As I was cleaning in the retched workroom, I found this hanging in a corner.  It was a finished piece, but sadly, not dusted in months...

I dragged it to the kitchen and got out the lemon oil.

As I was working on it, Tessie sauntered in and did here usual routine..."What'cha doing?"

I tried to ignore her, but she is persistent, if nothing else.

I opened the cage door to get some of the dust inside and she ran past and into the cage....Not a care in the world....Until I let go of the spring hinged door...

No more Miss Nice Witch!  "You did that on purpose!  Let me out of here NOW!

I decided to let her cool her heels for a while.  I went looking for other cages.  This is one that I have had for several(10) years...It is beautiful, so it gets to stay....I just noticed that I took a photo of the back of the cage where all of the seams are...Oops...Oh well...

I could never decide what to do with it.  It will obviously have to be something fairly feminine.  Pink roses...Maybe that's the problem.  I am not a pink rose kind of girl.  I do like this one though.  Would you believe that I got a hand painted toile cage at Walmart?   That was back when they had a great craft department.  It took up a large corner at the back of the store.

Now It is basically 4 aisles at three different locations in the store..., Oh, for the good old days...

You can't tell from the photo, but it is about 10" across.  I am still thinking.....

This is another one that I filled in and turned into Spike's(Buffy the Vampire Slayer) crypt.

I cut out all of the wires and filled in the frame in with pieces of foam core.  Then I marbleized the whole thing.

It sits on a base that was one of the small bulletin boards that I use.  I painted the edges to match the marble and used railroad turf to fill in the cork portion.  There are other photos of this elsewhere on the blog....Look under "Spike's Crypt" in the labels if you wish to see more detail.

Now, back to the first one...

The nice thing about these cages is, the bottom of them is hinged and closed with hooks, so that they are easy to get into.

It is back to it's former self now.

The back wall, floor and fountain(with flowers) are all completely removable.  They aren't even glued in place.

I proceeded to put everything back inside and added a couple of tables and a chair.

I turned my back for a couple of minutes.  When I turned  around again, Tessie had zapped in a tray of cold cuts, a bottle of something unnamed and a cup from which to drink it.

As I watched, she plopped down on the chair, with her kumihimo wheel in hand and started braiding.

She looked up at me and said, "You can leave now.  I have everything I need for the afternoon....Be back at five to open the door.".  Then she made a shooing gesture at me and went back to her braiding.

I certainly wasn't going to argue with something that will keep her entertained for the rest of the day!

I am going back to cleaning now...

See you tomorrow.

She looks quite comfy in her little chair in the cage. Love the cage btw.

I love that last cage that Tessie is spending the afternoon in. It's so feminine. I am rather a pink roses girl! Not to say I don't like dark colours. They add a touch of punch to a decor. Like a touch of red where there's a lot of pink!
