To Blind? Or Not to Blind......

Actually, I should say "shade or not to shade", but blind sounded better. I tried sheer curtains this morning and did not like them one little bit. They just weren't Tessie.

I grabbed this place mat, made of very fine matchstick bamboo.

Tessie didn't much care what I did about the shades. She was playing with the leftovers. She was very excited about those.

She was practically jumping up and down and declared, "If we cut these down and leave the string connecting them in the center and paint the sticks red, they will look like strings of firecrackers! Where's the paint?"

I, being not to excited about Tessie and firecrackers in the same sentence, tried to ignore her. I took one of the bedroom windows and used it as a template for a roller shade. I drew around it, making sure that the two lines of strings were equal distance from the center of the window.

I cut it to size and rolled it up part way. If you wanted to make these so that they roll up and down, you could do it around a very thin dowel. I am just going to leave them in one position, so that wasn't necessary.

I covered the string with black silk ribbon, to match the bed and other black pieces in the room.I rolled the shade to the point that I wanted it and glued it at that point.

Next, I strung a flat, antique brass, bead on a head pin and stuck it in the end....Both ends.

The finishing touch was a round bead glued to the center bottom for a pull.

Then I glued the whole thing to the top of the only finished window frame. I still need to cut sills for the other two windows.

As we work, we are trying to decide where the bed should go in the room. I don't think that I tried it on the left side wall before. The right side wall is very long and needs to be broken up, but for some reason it seems as if you have a better view of the room with it on this wall.
The third option is to put it in the bay. I kind of think that it is going to make the room "end heavy". All of the interest would be in the bay and your eye would go there, passing up the rest of the room....Decisions. Decisions. Decisions.

I also noticed that, what with all of the moving and shifting for the past couple of days. The black on the bed is getting scratched. Round and round I go....

I also need to paint the corner leading into the bay. That's the panel that I glued into place last week. It is showing white. Now I have to go hunt up the green again....I am going to be really lucky if I get to laying the carpeting today. I still need to do all of the crown molding and door trim. Then comes the carpet and the baseboards.

I have to get back at it. I want this house over and done with. NOW!

See you tomorrow.

Tell Tessie not to worry. I have a RED placemat just like this. Free firecrackers and more than she will ever need! LOL

Kathi! Don't you dare! Tessie can get in enough trouble without you egging her on! I took the place mats away from her. I don't want her setting the house on fire!!!LOL

What a brilliant idea, Casey, making shades with place mats. I love it! Thank you so much! And, Tessie looks adorable holding all those place mat firecrackers!

Una cama preciosa y original. Me gusta mucho la tela elegida y los complementos. Yo creo que la posición de la cama en la primera foto es la mejor. Mariajo
