Finished Samovar...

What does it take to make a mini samovar? It takes four boxes of jewelry findings, some tools and a lot of patience.

Tessie has the tools and the findings, but no patience, what so ever!

I design by trial and error. Tessie doesn't like the error part. She wants it done on the first try.

It took me a couple of hours of fitting pieces together to get something that I liked.

I am still not crazy about the shape of the base bead. I would like it better if it was less rounded and more squat like. Oh well, we use what we have.

With a little of this and that and a lot of E-6000 glue, this is what I came up with in the end.

When I finished, I decided that it was way too new looking.

I hunted up a pallet of antiquing paste that I have had around here almost forever. I can't tell you what it is. The label went away a long time ago.

Anyway, I used it to antique the gold findings and some of the gold paste went on the top of the barrel bead for highlights.

Here is the finished samovar. It looks more age appropriate now. I still don't care for the shape, but all in all, it turned out pretty good for the first try.

And best of all, Tessie says it makes great tea!

See you tomorrow.

A beautiful creation,Casey. You're so patient to work on such a small piece. The filigree jewelry findings add a nice touch to the overall look of the piece.

Браво! Придумать такое решение,-это достойно восхищения! Самовары были медные или латунные, можно подкрасить бусину металликом)))

The samovar came out great despite your misgivings. Tessie looks quite pleased...and that's what counts!

Niknik, The samovar is copper, but it doesn't show up very well in the photo.

I do think that I am going to try again for the classic shape. Maybe I will let Tessie have this one and do another one for April.

It is a very convincing samovar , Casey. Especially after the antiquing. I love the little taps you fashioned.

I know it's not easy working with bead findings, mainly because you have to go through many to find the right pieces and then maybe still cut and trim, bend and paint .

I love it! If you don't mind I'm thinking of emailing my Russian professor from school so she can see the cottage and it's contents. ;-)

Send her over, Kat. I will be pleased to have her visit.

I love your blog. I'm moving backwards through it so I have no idea why you are making a samovar. Is Tessie Russian? Anyway, you got me thinking and did some exploring online and found this link that you might also enjoy: http://www.saunalahti.fi/~marian1/gourmet/russ_tea.htm
Now, I want to have a samovar of my own -- fullsized!
