Back to the Future....

Hmmmm....That would make a good title for a movie or two....

For me, it is just a statement of fact. I am back to reorganizing the supplies in the workroom once again....

Tessie would like to think that she is helping. I think that she is just keeping watch to make sure that I don't throw any good bits away.

This was my latest attempt, a few years ago, to get a handle on all of the strips of molding and skinny wood that I keep on hand. I made the mistake of thinking that, if I put it all in a drawer, it would be easy to find what I wanted......Oops....Wrong again.

I have been thinking, since before Christmas, of going back to the way that I used to store it. You know how they have the molding standing up in plastic tubes in stores so that you can pull them out and look at them? That's how I used to do it. In fact, at one time I purchased one of the display stands from a store that was closing. I used it for a long time until it started falling apart. Then I just kept the tubes and stuck them in a waste basket.

It took me more than an hour to go through all of the strips and sort them. Does that tell you how much wood I had in that drawer?

It's a good thing that I did it with Tessie watching. She finally found the Mad Russian Pig. He disappeared from the top of the chest where the wood was kept about a month ago. Evidently he decided that the wood drawer would be a good place to live. There were a few pieces of wood with lots of piggy teeth marks in them....Poor thing. I guess that was all he could find to eat. Anyway, the reunion was happy and all is forgiven. Tessie is feeding him chocolate cake to placate him.

I sorted all of the wood by type and put it in the plastic tubes. When I ran out of those, I grabbed some tubes from wrapping paper and cut them down to size. Now I can find everything at a glance.

The nice part is, the two containers that I used take up only a little space in a corner and.......I have a whole empty drawer to fill.

Now all I have to decide is what is going into the drawer.

I think that I will go sit and stare at the drawer until something comes to mind. Well, maybe not. I do have a lot of other reorganizing to do. Back to work.

See you tomorrow.

I store most all my strip wood this way. I've tried other ways, too, but this takes up the least space and is the most accessible. Of course, I don't think I have nearly as much as you... ;-)

That drawer will fill up before you know it...nature abhors a vacuum.

Here's to an organinzed New Year!

Ohhh do your cats leave those tubes of wood alone? Mine take every opportunity to yank them out and strew them on the floor. May I send you my cats so yours can teach them proper manners?

Merry, you mitght try putting something like dryer sheets or other smelly things that cats don't like with the wood. My workroom door is usually closed unless I am in there, so I don't have a problem.

thanks for the tip, when I do start to collect wood strips I'll do what you did and hope my cat *I have two but Claudette is the one that usually makes a mess* wont bother it.

I keep my wooden slats horizontal, they are lying on top of my wardrobe. So they can not bend, but I do not have so many as you. Where I live they are not easy to buy, no stores near,
