Soutache and Lace....

I needed something to go around the edge of the roof on the cottage. With the onion shape curves, there was no way that I could use regular molding.

Since I have already gone in the fabric trims direction for some of the strip trim, I was in a frame of mind that led me to soutache braid.

I remembered that I had a few packages somewhere in my stash. Believe it or not, it took me less than five minutes to find it! If you want to try this, you can find soutache in just about any fabric store or on line.

Of course Tessie had to help.....After getting her untangled, I ordered her to stand back and then I went to work.

I painted a yard or two of that with old parchment Ceramcoat. Then, while I was at it, I did some of the fan blades and more lace.

A couple of coats on each did the trick. It is now the right color, and at the same time, still flexible.

I have started trimming the front of the house. I still have a way to go, but I wanted you to see the soutache on the edge of the curved roof line. I didn't want the edge to show. The kit comes with fine corrugated cardboard that will bend easily, but the edge doesn't look very nice.

I still have a panel that will go all the way across the top of the window and door with more lace and I have to finish trimming out the windows.

As I put the panels on the sides of the door, Tessie stepped through and demanded, "Where's my door?"

I answered, "Um, Tessie.....It's not your door anymore. And since it isn't, you are no longer in charge!"

She thought about it for a few seconds and then said, "It may not be mine, but it is taking away from the time that you could be spending on MY house! Therefore, I still have something to say about it!"

I calmly went into the medicine cabinet in the bathroom. I hunted up some earplugs. I stuffed one in each ear and went back to work.....Ahhhh....Quiet time.....

I can see her out of the corner of my eye as I work. She is waving her arms and stomping her feet. I know that she is hollering, but gee....I can't hear a word she is saying. What a shame.....

I am going to try to finish the front of the house today. Wish me luck!

See you tomorrow.

I commented but I think it disappeared. I was saying that I never know what I'll be learning from you. Today, you introduced me to soutache and lace. What a wonderful product and so versatile. Your little cottage is looking exquisite. And, I love that blue! It is so uplifting.

Oh, It looks so good! I will keep this idea tucked away for something later. I love the colors. My old dollhouse is about the same color as the blue!

Muy buena idea aplicar esa puntilla. Tendrás un relieve perfecto. Cómo si artistas carpinteros lo hubieran tallado :)
No te quites los tapones de los oidos, parece que Tessie está muy pesada.

I have never heard of soutache, but it looks fantastic as a finish on your blue cottage.

Just so you will know, there is also a braid called "President's braid". It is similar, but it has a raised ceneter and two smaller cords on the outer edges. I have never used this, but I imagine that it could also work.
