Having Fun Now.....

While the mouse is away, the cat will play.....Strike that.....Reverse it! Walter left on a golf weekend with three of his buddies this morning at 5:00 AM.
Soooo.....I have until about 7:00 PM Sunday to make a total mess and then clean it up.

I am still playing with the possibilities of the poly clay as fabric. I know that somebody did a book on making shoes with poly. There is probably information about using it for other fabrics, but I am not looking for that info. I am just having a good time messing with it.

This morning I added a handle to the brown purse and then went on to experiment with gloves to go in the other one.

I had a slice of the second purse laying on the table. I rolled it out a bit thinner and cut two sides off. Then I cut one end of the black and white off. I folded it into a coin purse shape. Instant wallet. I cut out a glove shape from white clay and even put the little three line detail on the back that some gloves have. There is a thumb on the other side. Oops. Didn't think of that when I did it. It's not going to show unless the purse is turned the other way.

Anyway, I think that those were pretty successful, if I do say so myself....

I got to thinking that some of the mirror beads, sliced and rolled very thin, might make nice silk scarves. I sliced and rolled. Then I went and found something to drape them over while baking.

Then I just fiddled with them until they looked natural.....to me anyway. I think that they might be interesting laying on a chair or over a hook if you draped them that way.

I cut little slits in the long ones for fringe. I think that you could add a real fabric fringe after they were baked. I will have to try that.

Tessie grabbed the square one. I am now trying to explain that, when baked, it will be hard and she won't be able to wear it....This is going to be a tough one. She wants to drape it around her neck.

I am thinking that this technique could be useful for making coats to hang on the hall tree or an apron or towel hanging on a peg in the kitchen. No fuss with all of the pinning and spraying that you have to do with the fabric kind.

I have three days to experiment if my mind doesn't wander.....It will. It always does.......

See you tomorrow.

mini party at Casey's... woo hoo!!
I hope you enjoy your weekend without Walter... There is just something about being able to work on minis undisturbed.. I can't wait to see what you do with your polymer scarves. I think they look real.

Wow, Casey! Your clay as fabric is pretty amazing. May I know if this is before or after baking? If it looks just as soft and malleable after baking, then this is indeed a good medium for many things especially as you can make the pattern you want.

Thanks for the compliments! Sans, this is before baking, but they will look the same after. All you have to do is make sure that the "fabric" is draped the way that you want it before. I hope that the rest of you will experiment with it too. I would love to see what others do with it.

LOL....I don't think I've ever spent 2 whole days with myself....sounds dreamy! I'd probally be able to actually get something done! :)

Neat scarfs! Smart idea!

You've done a great job, yet again! You mentioned other minis done up with fimo 'fabric'. Yes, it's very possible. I have seen fimo as upholstery fabric for chairs and a lounge with repeating patterns, cut from those canes that you showed. As for putting on fringes from real fabric. There is a lot of stuff that you can put on before you actually bake it, because you're not using a high temperature. I have managed to glue a 'granite' benchtop on top of a finished wooden cabinet and bake the whole lot together. Worked well. Good luck

Marion, I did "carving" on a Michael's cabinet a while ago on the blog. I stamped the poly and then added it to the cabinet before baking. That was a wooden one also. That was fun. I have done a lot of poly work. I just never messed with it as fabric before.
