Tessie got very upset with me this morning when she saw me pull out a bottle of Hippo Grey Ceramcoat....."Ugh! That's worse than aubergine!" was her only comment.
I had to explain that it was only a base coat for the foundation and the roof.
"It is going to be covered up, isn't it?" she asked.
"Some of it is." I replied.
The foundation is going to be brick and the roof floor s going to be tile or slate. There will only be Hippo Grey where the mortar is between bricks, tile or slate. This is only the first step.
After I finished that, I proceeded to take a tip from the RGT worksheet. They suggested that, if you didn't want to use a flat course of shingles before laying the cut ones, you could use copper flashing. I had just the thing. It was an old roll of copper tape left over from stained glass days.
I don't use copper tape for electrical, so there is no need to save it.
Tessie did like that. You know her usual reaction to "shiny". She stared at it for a bit and then murmured, "Pretty....."
I have to agree. I think that it will add an extra spark to the edge of the roof.
I still need to stain the shingles, but I had to see how much of it was going to show.
At least Tessie waited until the paint dried on the roof before going up to look. As soon as it was possible, she moved in a couple of my tables in the tower, to try for size, in the potting shed that she is planning. Zar caught her putting a spiderwort in a pot for the roof garden.....I am just going to have to move it out of the way or work around it when I put in the floor.
She is very anxious to move in and get to work. Actually, I believe that Zar is encouraging her. He's not stupid. The sooner her house is finished, the sooner I will be back working on his.
I have to go figure out how to separate the two of them so that they will be hassling each other instead of me. I greatly dislike it when they work together......
See you tomorrow.

Lets hope her planting will keep her quiet for five minutes. xx
You could always mention to Tessie "how nice ____ would look in Zar's house instead." ;-)
Can't wait to see the roof and foundation when they're done!
Zar is a very sensible guy indeed :o) patience is a virtue..... apparently! LOL
Your copper flashing looks great! Will you make copper gutters too?
Rain chains? Can't wait to see what's next! :D
