I Was Right!

I worked on the wall hanging last night and this morning. First of all, last night I started over. The first start that I made looked way to fresh and new. I was doing cross stitch on the #28 fabric and the stitches were too close together. I wanted it to look like a well worn tapestry. When I started the second time I used heavier fabric and did the whole thing in "Continental Tent stitch." It's a needlepoint stitch that looks like half cross stitch on the front of the work but is heavier on the back because you are essentially taking one step back on the front and two steps forward on the back. That gives the whole thing a lot of body. Now that I have you thoroughly confused.....

Anyway, this is what it looks like so far. As you can see, just a tiny bit of the background shows through here and there, giving it a worn look.

Here is the selection of colors that I finally ended up with. When I design with the PC stitch program I sometimes use a pallet with more contrast than the finished piece. It is much easier to read the colors that way if there are just a few of them.

The other nice thing about the program is you can make your pattern the exact same size as your finished work by selecting the number of stitches per inch. It's great when you want to see how your finished piece is going to look in the room size wise.

I am liking the colors so far. I did have to change the brown to a darker color for contrast with the green. The color that I picked first was lighter and the green and brown kind of melted into a puddle.

Tessie didn't show up all morning whilst I was stitching. I started to wonder what she was up to... It was altogether too quiet. Remember what I said yesterday about a hiding hole? I happened to catch a glimpse of white whooshing around the corner of the footstool that sits behind me when I am on the computer when I was here earlier.

I was quiet and kept the camera at hand and this is what I captured. I didn't use the flash, so I don't think that she saw me. Like Elmer Fudd chasing the rabbit, I was very, very quiet........

There is an actual door in the wall behind the footstool! she forgot to zap the footstool back where it usually stands.

She came out carrying the loaded water pistol like she meant business. I wasn't about to confront her. You never know what she has loaded that blasted pistol with.

I know when to keep out of the way. I am going to wait until I know she is somewhere else and then investigate.

If you don't hear from me tomorrow come and rescue me. I fear that she might zap me if she catches me at the door. Wish me luck!

See you tomorrow.

Yes, you must be vewy, vewy quiet when taking a photo of Tessie on her rampage. The stitching will be beautiful. I finally sent out an e-mail plea to Joan Grimord as I'm having so much trouble with her bunny rug punch needle pattern. She recommends a particular punch needle which is, of course, not the one I have but I'm afraid the Cameo 'extra small' needle is still too large for miniatures. I'm about to toss the whole thing in the garbage!

I feel like this post had me in mind when you say "thoroughly confused"! But I can appreciate how the whole thing will feel more like a tapestry if it is heavier at the back. I am seriously thinking of buying the program. And yes, as usual, Tessie..:) and no, she will not kidnap you because who else will post her pics on the web?

Beautiful tapestry so far!
It looks ever so time consuming.
I'm loving Tessies secret room.
