Hang High the Roof Beams, Carpenter.....

Hmmmmm.....That would make a good title for a book if I were J. D. Salanger. Since I'm not, I am going to steal it from him anyway.

I have some photos to show you. I started dry fitting the front section of the roof on the Clockwork Cottage this morning. I forgot that I have to cut some new sections for the secret room/kitchen wing. It took a while to round up all of the pieces. For some reason I had put the pieces for the right section in a different place from the left ones around the chimney.

I had the front stuck together with painter's tape when I looked down and saw this.

Tessie had managed to get inside and was hanging from her fingertips out of the bedroom window to see what I was doing. She said "AHA!!! Roof!" Then she disappeared. I said to myself "OK. Enjoy the quiet whilst it lasts." It didn't last. I went to make some adjustments on a roof piece and when I came back she was using the cat slide side of the front roof as a witch slide.

What is it with her and roofs? That seems to be her favorite part of whatever I am building. She kept zapping to the top and sliding down. Over and over and over...... It was unnerving after a while. She never hit the ground once. She would reach the edge and just when I thought she was going to crash land, she would poof and disappear in a puff of smoke. Then she would reappear at the peak of the roof and do it all over again.

I finally couldn't stand it anymore and told her to go find something else to do. She started her usual mumbling and grumbling and stomped off. As she rounded the right corner of the house she did her disappearing act for the last time.

I went to start marking boards that I needed to cut for the extra roof. As I worked, I heard "Hey Zar! Whatcha' doin'? Where did this room come from? Why is your cycle in here? What are you eating? Can I have some? Hey! I like the new dog bed! Why didn't you show it to me before? Are you trying to hide???" The next part was said with an evil grin on her face...... "Don't even try or I'll turn you into a big, ugly, warty toad. Now. What's for lunch?" Poor Balthazar never had a chance. He couldn't get a word in edgewise with the help of a shoe horn.

I am not even going to try to get in between those two. It is starting all over again. I knew I should have put that side of the roof on first. How did she know to zap herself to the ceiling of the dumbwaiter......I think that her memory is coming back. I am going far, far away now.

See you tomorrow.

Casey,
Loved todays post... it brought back memories from my early married life.. Tommy was up on our roof shingle and he said all of a sudden he had this very cold touch on his back.. It was our retriever mix dog.. He had climbed the ladder and stuck his cold nose to Tommy's bare back.. He took him down on his shoulders and went back to work.. After a while it was like a repeat.. He couldn't keep that dog off the roof.. I know there is a difference in Tessie and his way of getting around but for some reason it made me think of Teak. He was one special dog.. and needless to say Tessie is one special doll. I hope she doesn't see this.. I mean no disrespect in calling her that.. I also called my daughter doll.. so hope she takes it as a compliment.. And by the way.. The roof is coming right along, too bad Tessie found the secret room though.. poor Zar.
