I woke up this morning to two cats stomping on me and meowing for food. I slept in. It was almost 5:30AM and they wanted breakfast. An hour later than usual is not good! Then to make matters worse, when I got to the kitchen Tessie was there threatening to do bodily harm if I didn't clean up the workroom today. I don't argue when the odds are against me three to one.
I fed the cats, made coffee and cooked breakfast for myself, in that order. Mookie had half of the bacon. Then I got busy in the workroom. I had encouragement from the peanut section. That is, Tessie found the monkey that hangs from the fan cord and proceeded to enlist his help. The two of them made snide comments as I went about the straightening process. Witches and flying monkeys....Where have I heard of that combination before?
There is a method behind Tessie's madness. She wants to see if there is anything else hiding in there that she could use in her cottage. I am sure that she will have a pile sorted by the end of the day. I may not be anywhere closer to having a neat workroom, but she will have new goodies.
I received the Magnolia cottage kit that I ordered from HBS. It was standing against the wall just inside the door.....Tessie likes it....A lot.......Big mistake, leaving it out for her to see.
I started by making a path of sorts from the door to the desk. Then I got down to putting things away. That was all well and good until Tessie found the drawer where I put all of my mini needlework fabric. Boy, did ever I get a chewing out! "All of these rugs and bedclothes need to be finished! Did you really think that you could hide them?" Tessie was not happy. She saw all kinds of possibilities for new decorating for her place(and for everyone else as well)
She dragged them all into the bedroom whilst I was doing other things. I went in and she had them spread out so that she could see everything and make choices. I found that she had been watching me closer than I thought. She also dragged out the pieces in the plastic cases that I am currently working on....Supposedly.
As you can see, she has zeroed in on one of my rugs that I designed. I have this handy dandy computer program called "Pattern Maker for cross stitch". It is wonderful for designing mini things. All that needs to be finished on that particular rug is the center background.....OK, so the six year old got involved.
Mookie wandered in and plonked himself down beside Tessie. They are kindred spirits. He licked her toes and agreed that the rug that she had chosen was the right one to finish.
I have the feeling that they both have the impression that I can work with a needle in each hand and finish that one and the one for the Clockwork cottage simultaneously.
I am ambidextrous, but I am not a miracle worker. I basically told them both to get lost and gathered up the mess that they had made.
After a short break, I went back to the workroom. Tessie got back in there before I did. I found her trying to make friends with the other Spike. Yes, I confess. I am a Buffy fan and I got Spike for Christmas one year. She can't seem to get him to talk. I guess that is because he is just a fictional character. He's not a real person like Tessie is. She will give up once she understands. Here I go explaining things again. Then back to work.
See you tomorrow.

You are so funny! By the way, do you really get up that early every morning!!!?
Yes, I do get up between 4:30 and 5 every morning. I got used to it when I was growing up and never changed. I am just naturally a morning person.
Sounds like you are in for one heck of a day with trying to get the workroom back in order AND finish two rugs at once! ;-)
When you get up in the mornings is about the time FH and I are flinging a pillow at Pollux to stop him from "molesting" plush animals.
Neither one of us is a morning person. He just has to be up to go to work. ;-)
Wonderful adventures today Casey. Brilliant the cat cleans tessies toes... lol.
I'm still laughing now... oh lol.
I'm not a morning person and a bit of a night owl. I've always been a night owl unlike your good self as a morning person.
I'm still laughing... Nikki x
I have just found your Blog in the past few days.. I went back to the beginning and am enjoying every single post... I love your way with words.. And Tessie.. Well even though she may be a witch.. she has to be of the good kind.. She is just too cute to be bad.. I am just beginning to work in miniature but not as small as you.. I am building a house on the 1/10 th scale.. It is a learn as I go thing.. It is for my new found love "Hitty". If you don't know of her look up Hitty Doll... She is a travel doll.. But mine seem to be homebodies... Can't wait to get caught up with the present posts...
Just found your blog... Love every post....
I went to back to the beginning and am reading my way back to the present.. Love your work. And Tessie and Mookie are becoming fast friends of mine..
Tina, I am familiar with Hitty. Good luck on the 1/10th scale. It sounds like you will be doing a lot from scratch!
I love that Tessie is so flexible. That pic with the monkey is great. How long does it take for you to finish x-stitching a Persian rug (standard 1:12), Casey?
Sans, it's hard to say how long it takes. I am probably faster than most because I have done it for so long. The largest count fabric that I use is #22. That means that there are 484 cross stitches in a square inch. The smallest that I can see to use is #40. That has 1600 stitches in a square inch. I am working mostly on #24(556) and #28(784) right now.It really doesn't matter how many stitches to the square inch. What matters is the number of stitches in the pattern. And it would help if I sat down and did rugs from start to finish. Unfortunately, that seldom happens. It took me a couple of hours to do the cross stitch welcome mats that I featured in one of the entries. That was with old glasses. It is much easier since I got the new ones. Sorry I can't answer more accurately.
Hi Casey, lovely pic of Tessie and the cat. As many others I'm more a night owl but now I understand how you can do all this work: your day is really longer than mine. Not to mention that you are so much more clever than I am!! hugs
Rosanna, I am sure that you stay up later at the other end of the day than I do. I am usually ready for bed about 9 or 10 at the latest.
Casey - I love how Mookie is helping Tessie to choose the rug. I also use my cat and doll in my posts. Aren't they fun? But Rusty keeps taking off with some of my miniatures. I have to watch him like a hawk when I am working on something. Our other cat Misty very seldom bothers with my stuff.
Way to go, Tessie and Mookie! Keep her in line. Watch that she doesn't try to distract you and shove it all in the closet.
For those of you that don't know, that last comment from "April" was my dear daughter's. She knows me too well.......
I love that picture of Mookie and Tessie....So cute!!!
