The Mystery of the Silver Squirrel...

OK.  You have seen the squirrels from our back yard many times... They are ALL brown with kind of yellowish markings...

This little guy has been coming in for a couple of weeks now.

He doesn't look like any of the other squirrels.  And he is smaller than the normal baby squirrels that usually start showing up this time of year...
I would like to find out if there are any gray squirrels in our area.  I guess I am going to have to do some searching on the net.

He sure is cute and one of a kind.  I want to know where he came from... Any ideas?
Yes!  I am working.  Don't nag.  I decided to put two more saplings on the front of the building.

Looking at the photo, I think that they need to be just a bit larger.

I guess I should go back and fatten them up.

Back to work.

See you tomorrow.

That's so cool! I saw a white squirrel when I went to Brevard, NC. Apparently they are known for having a lot of them there. I even got a picture!

So cute. I have never seen a silver squirrel before but I love his skeleton looking feet!

The squirrel's coloring is unlike any that I've seen before. We have the usual grayish/brown ones and the less usual black ones. Your light one is beautiful. I also like the additional trees; good decision. Also agree that fatter is better. Nice work!

Unfortunately we are over run with grey squirrels here in the UK. We used to have only red/brown ones but since the grey ones were introduced they have taken over all the territories of the red ones. I think the red ones still flourish in Scotland though. Here unfortunately the grey ones are considered vermin for that reason I'm afraid. I have one who visits me - he is very cheeky and very clever. They are so clever in fact it's become popular for people to set up all kinds of tests and tricks for them to figure out how to find the food.

I looked up why/when they first came here (in the UK) and this is what I found -They were imported as fashionable additions to estates, but grey squirrels soon became the main threat to the survival of the native red population. Native to the eastern half of North America, grey squirrels were first introduced to Britain in the 1870s and are now widely distributed across the UK.

It looks like your little chap has had a long trek to get to you!
