I Had Permission to Do It...

OK... So I gave myself permission to do it...

A couple of weeks ago, I was looking at beadwork on the net and ran across a carrier for taking along your beadwork... I do that quite a bit at the Wednesday Witches meetings.

I liked the little zippered carrier.  Everything but the price.  It was $100.00!!! and it wasn't even real leather...They called it Faux... In other words some synthetic that looks like leather...

I kept thinking that I could find some kind of zippered case.  Maybe a day planner or a notebook... I looked at those, every place I went... They still were more than I wanted to pay and There would have been a lot of adjustments to make, besides.

Yesterday morning I was in town, wandering around Walmart.  I went through the needlework department(aisle) and looked down... Lo and behold!  DMC made a travel tote for embroidery... The outside was made of some kind of synthetic material with silly sewing sayings all over it and a big DMC label printed right in the middle...  Don't tell them, but the cover of it was just not pretty.

The inside was almost perfect for the way I wanted to use it.  All I had to do was add a liner made from one of those velvet-y blankets that were popular a few years ago.  People are also selling little squares of those for big bucks on the net.

I already had a twin sized one, that I bought several years ago, for the price of one of those little squares... I have made a LOT of bead mats from that one blanket..

Anyway, I proceeded to cut a couple of layers of the blanket to fit the one side of the carrier.  That one, only had a flat pocket so I just covered it up by gluing the blanket piece inside.

I sewed a couple of pieces of crocheted fancy thread to hold the back up, when it is open.  That was all I did to the inside...

I did crazy quilting on the outside with fabric and glue. Maybe I should glue a few gears on it and call it Steampunk...

This morning I started using a fabric pen on the edges of the "seams", to make that stitches. I still have to do the second side...

And the best part was the price. It is basically the same as the $100.00 one... Except I didn't get a Faux leather outside.  The cost? $10.00.  And actually, this one holds more bead tubes.  I could make a LOT of jewelry, before running out of supplies!

Tessie supported me in this effort.  She thinks she is going to get some fancy jewelry out of this.  We shall see...

Back to the time machine now.

See you tomorrow.

This looks great and would be so handy. I got a few beads out the other day to try and make something for my sister and I currently have beads all over a side-table in my lounge. Every time my big dog runs pass he swipes some to the floor with his tail.
