It wasn't the toilet. That only took a little while.
It is now officially finished and all I have to do before gluing everything in is the window surround.
I took everything out... Big mistake. Now I can see all that still has to be done... Lots....
OK. So it's not mini. Not even necessarily small. It's about 18" across.
It is a piece of needle made lace that I started about 10 years ago. I think that it is about time to finish it.
I won't go into detail on how to do it, but it is all done with a needle and fine crochet thread.
This is a closer view of some of the finished area.
When it is done, All areas will be filled with various lace stitches.
This is how all lace was made before they invented machines to do the job.
Most normal people would do all of the cording before they started the filling stitches... The six year old couldn't wait.
I think that this is going to be my Wednesday project for a while. Maybe this time I will finish it. By the way, it's a collar. Or it will be when I get done. Yes. I said when! I am not going to take another ten year break. Back to work.

I recently saw a Persian TV channel with a lady making strip lace with the same techniques. She was super fast. I cannot wait to try it in miniature scale!

Lene, considering where you are located, I imagine this might be te type of lace you were seeing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTdkAFlEDMg&feature=youtube_gdata_player. I have tried it and it is similar. I was pretty slow at it. There are a lot of instructional videos on you tube if you want to try it. Good luck.

That is an interesting way to make lacy edges, thanks for the link! I Googled needle lace and it is the same technique the lady was showing. It seems that it is not restricted to Alencon in France anymore, but is quite the hobby in Iran! She did two columns of running stitches on the paper, about 2 inches apart. Then proceeded to weave, wrap and bob her way with one needle and thread from left to right, moving downward, into the most intricate pattern. And she was super fast, amazing hand-eye coordination! I've tried finding it on Google, but it is probably in Arabic.
Lene, I will have to help you look. I'll bet that between the two of us, we can find a you tube of it! I am interested.
