Knit Picking Decisions

The knit picking part was the sock that I had started.  I took it off of the needles and unraveled the whole thing last night.

The decisions part was, once again, the tower.  Before I can do the interior walls, I have to finish the front.  I did put in the windows, but I can't put in the walls until I do the door..
The problem being, I have to decide what to do about the non functioning lock and the two hinges.

I can live with the bottom hinge.  It is hardly noticeable.  But the lock, is bigger than Tessie's head.  You should hear what she had to say about that...Or maybe you shouldn't...

I am with her on this one.

Unfortunately, the stupid thing is put in with rivets, not screws and there doesn't seem to be a way to get them out without damaging the Plexiglas.
I solved the problem of the top hinge with a corner of the arches at the top.  They also cover up the writing on the front.  Another permanent feature.

I thought about covering the lock with more of the stonework, but I am afraid that would look just plain weird. No purpose to have a piece of stone work there.

I don't want to make the front window narrower.  It would really limit the view of the interior.

The Terrible Two are no help what so ever.  They have been standing there staring at the lock for the past 23 minutes.  No solutions from them....They mumbled something about leftover cookies  and wandered off towards the kitchen just now.

I guess I am going to have to sit here and stare at it all by myself..  At least I can start doing washes on the stonework while I stare...

See you tomorrow...Hopefully with a solution.

Will there be any vines on the exterior? Part of the vine might mask the lock if not cover it completely. It wouldn't have to be connected to the vine on the stonewall, just look as if it is.

Kathie, that was one of the solutions on my list, but I really didn't want to make the plants. It would take a lot of them to make it look right...maybe, but not unless it is a last resort.

Hmm, I wish I had a brilliant solution for you, but I think I would be tempted away by cookies too. I know you'll come up with a brilliant solution, though! Good luck!

Would it make sense to cover it with a wood effect and turning it in an old castle lock? No? Well then... *goes to kitchen for cookie crumbs*

Hmm, that is a tricky challenge! What about if you create a faux stone pillar out of cardstock, glued onto the plexiglass, with the pillar coming up to just underneath the lock. Then the lock (sitting on the pillar) can get a little roof or some decorative metal scrolls to make it look different, but it will still be "standing" on the floor. If you like, you can repeat the cardstock on the back of the plexiglass to complete the illusion. Maybe glue a clock-face to the lock's backside so that it becomes a part of the furniture from the inside view. Whew - enough brainstorming - this is hard work!

Hello Casey,
Since it is a tower how about some kind of bird house? There could be pigeons that carry messages, or maybe an owl...it really is in a bad spot. I know you will figure something out.
Big hug,
Giac
