"Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful."
I am on a kick right now. I am cleaning out things that I haven't used in twenty years or more and hiding things that are messy looking.
That's as close as I can get to living with the saying....
This morning I took a look at the pile of stuff it takes to make the rug. Useful? Yes. Beautiful? No....Just plain messy looking. And I am always misplacing one or another of the cards of thread.
I complained to Tessie and she zapped herself out of the room....I thought "How rude!"
As quickly as I thought it, she was back. she also zapped back a box that I have been using to store my calligraphy pens. (I didn't ask what happened to the pens....I don't want to know.)
It's not necessarily beautiful, but better than a pile of messy thread.
The Turkish cigarette tin has been with me since college....I don't smoke. I have a thing for black and white and the tin holds loose change.
The useless little, hand painted, Italian pitcher holds toothpicks. Handy for when I am working in the bedroom.
The black flower frog hold numerous pairs of scissors. Also handy for miniatures. I think that I have mentioned these before. I use them for holding tools, pencils and, crochet and knitting needles. I started collecting these years ago when I could get them for about a quarter a piece. Now I see them at antique stores at $5.00 and up. Good investment. Also very, very useful for storage.
Anyway, my pile of threads, needles, fabric and scissors are all contained and hidden behind a fun piece of needlepoint doodling.
I am going now and do some more weeding of junque. Please don't ask how I am doing in the workroom....Let's just say that I am sending Tessie in there if I need anything....
Back to the useful and beautiful now.
See you tomorrow.

I've always loved that quote, and it's timely that you mentioned it, because I have to clean out MY workroom.
I needed to hear Mr. Morris again.
I have too many things that "might be useful someday!" Stuff I've been saving for years, "just in case..."
I think there may be a need to do some "zapping" things out to the curb! Come on over Tessie! I need your help!
Dear little Tessie! Sometimes she can be so useful. Right, Casey?! Anyways, she looks adorable in that box. I love that needlepoint doodling. It's so colourful! I think I might try that some time. Good luck with the rearranging of the workroom. I spent my day doing computer-related things. I won't go into it. Stubborn printers. I have a new computer and I can't find a driver for my old printer. So, I'll have to buy a new printer and discard all the extra ink cartridges. All that money down the drain!
veo que la alfombra va creciendo dia a dia , todos acumulamos mas cosas de las que en realidad necesitamos, es bueno hacer limpieza o al menos reordenar de vez en cuando
besitos

A wise quote that I really needed to hear! :) It seems a lot of crafters here tend to indulge to a bit of chaos, and I fear I am between the worst ones! :D
