Before and Maybe After.....

Still dragging things out of the workroom to toss...Don't worry.  Nothing that will be missed.

I started at the top of this bookcase this morning...Poor Clockwork Cottage... It needs love and attention.

I kept looking at it as I cleaned...Then I stopped.  Grabbed a quad pad and started drawing.
I looked through the kits that are still not made and decided that none of them would look right as a "tree" house.

As I studied the Clockwork Cottage, I realized that it would work.

There is already some stone foundation made of DAS on the right side that looks like the Korean foundations. I have a head start!

I started doodling and this is what I came up with.  It may be a "three tree house".  I will have to work that out as I go along.  I need a new supply of DAS. I am out.

I will also have to decide what the best way to do the trees would be.  I think that I will try a couple of techniques.  One would be all DAS.  The other would be to do the trees with twine and glue and then covering it with DAS to smooth.  I am leaning towards the second one.  I think that it would be faster and more flexible.  The stonework would still be all DAS.

I would like to say that I am starting this right away, but I am going to resist.  I need to finish the Weaver's Workshop before I switch again.

While I am stuck cleaning the workroom, I am keeping Tessie busy elsewhere.  I have a Halloween lunch to attend next Wednesday Witch's meeting.  One of our members owns a great restaurant down next to the Tucson Museum of Art, called Cafe a la c'art.  Judy invited us all down there to eat....On the condition that we wear costumes.

Everybody in the group is used to me wearing a shirt with spiderwebs printed on it or something of the sort.  Every year I tell them I don't do costumes...

What they don't know is, I used to do costumes and go all out.  I just got tired of it.

This year, I found the perfect shirt for me.."I don't do costumes" is printed across the front in bold letters.

Tessie is helping me accessorize.  I found a punk rocker's wig....I will probably look like a cross between Sammy Haggar and Twisted Sister in it...That doesn't matter.  I'm going in zombie makeup... Complete with torn nails and scabs... That'll teach them to hassle me about costumes!  Now where did I put my extra pint of blood?

Tessie helped by cutting up an old t-shirt and making a spaghetti scarf.  With matching bracelet from the leftovers. I kind of like these for regular wear.  Right now there are dozens of instructions on U Tube for them if you are interested.  They are really fun to make and you can do it plain or with beads and other adornments.  Some versions are quite nice.

OK.  That's it for my break.  Back to work.

See you tomorrow.

I think using the Clockwork Cottage for one of the Korean tree houses you showed us is a marvelous idea! I really can't wait to see what you do! Having put together a Glencroft, I am always in awe of the different ways folks bash and finish this model. :) Good luck!

I'm looking forward to seeing how you make those trees. The proposed costume looks interesting and original!

Love the tree idea, that is something I would like to do at some point.

Hi Casey. What a great idea for the
Clockwork Cottage!
I have a question about a problem I have with a Michael's mini cabinet. It's the one with long doors with two shelves inside and a fake drawer at the bottom. With the door open, I cannot fit a brush inside the cabinet to paint the edge of the doors. The doors are attached with pin hinges. Do you know a secret way to take the doors off and replace them? Any suggestions appreciated.

Phyllisa, my way of solving that problem was to shorten the handle on the brush. I simply cut it of with my razor saw at a length that would fit inside. Use an old brush.

You can take the doors off if you have a wide enough gap between door and frame, and a pair of needle nose pliers...But brush cutting it much easier to do.
