Well Worn Expendables....

I was fibbing about the expendable part.

That part is the excuse as to why I didn't get this post up earlier in the day...

We went to see "The Expendables 2" earlier. There sure were a lot of expendable people in it...  I think that half of the actors ended up dead or dying.  At the same time though, we really liked it.  Lots of good people in it and lots of fun to watch.

When we got back I started working on Kathie's wicker.  After all of the messages back and forth, we decided to use some fabric that she had.  I had to wait for that to get here and then we decided that we would avoid sending it until after Labor Day.

She decided that she wanted it to look used, as opposed to new and pretty.

See the holes in the batting in the first photo? that's the used part.

I use two layers of thin batting.  The bottom layer gets the holes.  Then the top layer is glued over that, making sure that the center is well glued to the form.  That is the depression where people have sat.

I also glue the fabric down in the center to make sure that the depression stays.

Here's a sneak peek at how they will look.  I still need to do some trimming and to make pillows to match the upholstery.  And yes Kathie, you will have plenty left over for curtains.

Now all we have to do is convince Tessie that the set isn't hers.  That might take a while.

I will wait until she is asleep tonight and hide it all...Out of site is out of mind...

See you tomorrow.

It looks perfect! Have been wondering who has been sitting in it, hoping those thoughts will lead me to the perfect setting for it. Looking forward to its arrival, so I can do some 3-D thinking!

You do exquisite work! I wish you sold your wicker handiwork on Etsy, Casey. My hands are no longer able to whomp up a set for myself, so I'll have to settle for just drooling over your pictures. Love the advice on making the chairs look worn, too. The furniture is lovely! I bet a lot of crafters are going to run right out, get some string and basswood, and get to work.
