The Secret Is Out......

I have done the first of the secret hiding places in the Clockwork Cottage. I may as well show you. It's not a very well kept secret anymore.

Tessie came to inspect the bookcase fitted into the wall to see if it was up to her standards. I knew that I should have plugged up that slot above before I let her into the living room.

She was suspicious. She started tapping on the back wall of the bookcase with her knuckles. She then announced that it sounded hollow. I could see her taking a peek through the slot at the same time and I knew that all was lost.....


Next she wedged her fingers behind the frame and started pulling. I made it so that it would pull out with ease. Oops! I should have made it Tessie proof.

Once she got it out part way she started on her usual routine. "Why don't I have one of these in my cottage? What's behind here? Why did you make it so that it comes out?"

I had to explain my actions. I knew that she wouldn't stop until she had all the answers. I told her to go ahead and pull it out all of the way.

She did and then I told her that I had actually built two cases. The one behind is about twice as deep and larger than the actual bookcase. It is built up on the bottom so that the bookcase sits even with the opening all around.

I put the larger box in from the back. It will be glued in place permanently before the back wall goes in place.


I am not sure that I am going to keep the frame that is around the bookcase. It sticks out more than I would like, but I couldn't find any chair rail. That is what I really wanted to use. I may have to go across town and buy some. There's always something that I don't have when I need it. That always leads to buying more things that I can't live without.

It's either that or order on line. Unfortunately, that works the same way. I can't order just a few pieces of chair rail. I just can't! After all, miniatures.com charges the same for shipping up to $50.00......

Today is the mini Wednesday Witches meeting. I have to finish this and get ready to go. Please don't tell Tessie about Wednesday Witches. She will want to go along.
