Carolyn received her chair a couple of days ago. Poor baby. She has a terrible cold and can't work on anything. She did take a couple of photos of the anniversary chair after it arrived. She promises to send more after she does the scene around it. Here's the picture that I forgot to take before sending it to her. Don't you love the scenic wallpaper behind the chair? Carolyn, where did you find that?
In other news, I got all the way around the fireplace surround last night. I still need to do some fine tuning, but it is basically done. I am still on the fence about whether to stain or faux finish it. I suppose I can stain it to see how I like it and if I don't I can go to the paint pots. I think that I am leaning towards the stain at the moment. I want the room to be a bit on the dark side. Looking at my paints, I am thinking maybe Ceramcoat Midnight blue. That would be nice and restful for a bedroom. I think that I am at least going to close in the "wood bin" to the left of the fireplace. I don't like the shape of it at all.
I may even close in the hole on the front side of the stairs that serves no purpose that I can see at all. If it is closed, there will be more room for furniture in the bedroom.
Now that I am looking at it in the photo, I don't like any of the openings but the fireplace. I think that the staircase opening would look more in keeping with the house if it were much smaller too. Maybe It should be the shape of the other doors in the house. That's more busy work before I start the serious stuff that has to be done. Here we go again.
I just now thought that maybe the fireplace would look better if it were a little larger.......Nope. The carving is almost finished. I am not going to waste that!
I had better go back to work now. Sitting here looking at the photo has gotten me in enough trouble already. Why do I knock out holes in the walls and then decide to fill them back in? Round and round I go......
See you tomorrow.

The chair is really cute and the wall paper behind it is so good and apt to the situstion. Lucky Carolin. I love the carving, I'd stain it, not paint like faux marble. It would spoil the carving work. Mini hugs. Are your new glasses doing a good job? if not, come to my place... as soon as you get across the ocean.
Casey the fireplace surround looks fantastic. So does Carolyn's chair and pouffe. Hope your soon feeling better Carolyn..
Where's our friend Tessie, she's been a bit quiet!
Rosanna, I don't get the new glasses for about 10 days. I will let you know how they are. If they're not right, I may have to come to Italy to have them fixed. G
Debbie, I try to keep Tessie away from sharp objects! She's around, just not around Exacto knives......I'm not so worried about her safety as I am about mine!
The chair is beautiful, lucky Carolyn!
What tools do you use to do your carving? That fireplace is just amazing!
Grace, my tools are my trusty #11 Exacto, some cut up emery boards, a brush for cleaning out wood chips and once in a while a needle file. In that order. Thanks for the compliments all of you!
Hi Casey. Your chair looks lovely and i know carolyn the lucky winner will love it.
Your fireplace surround is also out of this world and think you're ever so clever to carve so well.
Your work is amazing!
Oh, that lucky Caroline(with the chair ,not the cold)
I'm a little bit jealous ; )
