I Can See Clearly Now.....

The snow has gone. I was right. It was about 10:23 AM when the last of it vanished. I suspect that Tessie witched the last of it away. See? Not a flake anywhere! There is one lonely little dove in the wildlife feeding area. Poor thing looks very cold.

I have been working on shading of the roof all morning. This is what I am using. The box on the left was a gift when I was still in college. It was a long time ago......The others are the "new 90s colors". So you know I have been using them for a long time. Luckily, you can purchase the colors that you use the most one at a time at places like Michael's. Can you tell that I like these? Actually the first set that I ever got was a 12 pack back when I was 12. Those were another one of those presents that was at the top of my list. I guess it's just the artist in me.

I used seven colors + black as overlays on the roof. They were mostly earth tones, copper and gold. It is hard to explain, other than I used them on random shingles. I used more towards the inner corners where the rain and other elements would stay longer. You can see the difference between the right where the colors are and the left where I still only have white.

After I finished putting the colors on, I went back with the black pencil and underlined all of the shingles and did some shading here and there. That makes the shingles stand out instead of just laying there all the same. This is pretty much how they look. If you poke the photo you can see a close up. Don't expect pretty. It is like having your nose about 3" from the surface. You can see all of the flaws that you don't see when standing at a normal distance.

This part is going slowly, but I believe that it is like a new hairdo or putting icing on the cake. It's the part that you see first on the cottage and it needs to be detailed. That's just me.

I did a tiny bit of shading in the corners on the half timber, but I still need to do more on that part too. I am going to try to finish the roof and plaster shading today and maybe get some of the trim done.....Wish me luck. There is a real world out there, trying to get inside.

I guess I should report on Tessie while I am at it......EVERYBODY DUCK! She found a new dragon!!!

See you tomorrow!
