I cut some walnut strips for the floor in the living room this morning. I did some 1/2" and some 1/4".
Tessie is standing on the irregular strips. To her right is the regular stuff. I decided that, since the kitchen is tiled that I would do the regular for the living room. Maybe I will do irregular upstairs in the bedroom.
I took her by the scruff of the neck and moved her out of the room and started laying.
I don't remember where I learned this technique, but it is a lifesaver when it comes to floors. When gluing strips of any kind, I don't smear the glue all over....That is what causes warping. I put dots of glue about a inch apart on the back. That way the moisture isn't on the full strip. Thus, no chance to warp. Thank you to whom ever showed me this trick.
I cut up two and a half pieces of 1/32" walnut. I have had this for probably 20 years or so. I just don't use anything that thin for making furniture most of the time. I still have four more pieces. Probably enough to finish the living room and do the bedroom too.
I do weight the pieces down until they are dry.... Tessie volunteered for the job. Her extra weight is what is holding the floor together.
I still have strips left, but I wanted to do this before I finished the floor. Otherwise, I might not get it done before I have to leave for the Wednesday Witches mini meeting.
Back to the saw and glue.
See you tomorrow.

Hi Casey! Thanks for the tip on gluing down the floor boards. I had never heard of doing that before and will have to give it a test run when I get the next opportunity.
:D

Hello Casey,
The floor looks great and I think the irregular pattern is very charming and could look great upstairs.
Big hug,
Giac
Giac, I plan to do a large area rug for the living room, so decided on a plain floor for the room. Thanks for reminding me! I need to get going on the rug.
Casey I learned some thing new today thank you for sharing that little tip.
