This morning I decided to do one of the gifties that I did for others for Christmas. It was destined to sit on my kitchen counter. I can tell you now that they were salt cellars. This is the first one that I made.
After I finished it, I realized that it didn't match any of the kitchens that I was building salt cellars for.....Oops! It matched mine.
Now I can tell on myself. I carefully pried it off with my trusty Exacto knife in one piece. Then I proceeded to do three that were mostly seventies colors. Remember Avocado Green, Harvest Gold, Goldenrod and Antique White? Sure you do. Those were the only colors to have in the seventies if you wanted to be in the in crowd.
Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos of the finished jars. So....You get a kind of rerun. This is a new jar that I bought this morning. Walmart is selling them now and they really are salt containers. If you look closely at the side, you will see it is embossed with the word SALT. I guess they don't want you to put anything else in them. Ha! I will if I want to! I can cover the "salt" on the side with more clay.
I made seasoned salt to put in the gifts and I had some left over. That was all the excuse I needed to make another one.
Too bad I don't have need for more salt cellars. They were fun to make. If you try it, be sure to use some liquid poly on the lid so that the rest will stick to it.
While I had the clay out, I decided to try something that popped into my head about 3:00AM this morning. It seems like that is when I get most of my hair brained ideas. Some of them work and some of them even sound hair brained to me. This one was somewhere in the middle.

I have a few of the infamous Michael's hutches in a drawer. I woke up and started thinking that it would be easy to use some poly clay and some rubber stamps to make one of them look like they were carved.
This was one of those "I can if I want to" ideas. If it didn't work, I could just rip off the clay and do something else with both the clay and the hutch.
This one reminds me of the Mexican cupboards that you see in the southwest, so I decided on a kind of Mexican folk art kind of stamp.
I don't know what happened to the feet on this particular cabinet. I am going to have to find some to put on it.
Tessie came in while I was working on it and naturally, the first thing out of her mouth was....."Is this for me? I don't like the color. Where's the glass in the doors. It doesn't have any feet." Then..."If you expect me to store things in here, it's going to have to be fixed!"
"Tessie, it's not yours."I said.
"Why can't I have it? Please???" She asked.
Somebody please tell me where the logic went in this house! It seems to have flown out the window when Tessie moved in.

Here's a close up of the bottom part. I like that. I am not so sure about the rest, but I am going to play with it for a while and see what happens. I am not worried about the color. After I finish covering and baking it, I will paint and antique it.
As soon as I start painting, I imagine that Tessie will put her two cents in about the color. Then she will have plans for it. Most likely the hints about starting Spiderwort Manor will start all over again.
I am going back now and see what else I can do with the hutch. Here comes Tessie. Wish me luck!
See you tomorrow.
